Works great but sides easily scratched
Beautiful, well built, grinds very evenly. Finish on wood is soft and already getting marked up in light use. Wouldnโt prevent me from buying it but I may refinish it at some point.

I really love this grinder
I really love this grinder. It grinds perfectly, but if you want to make an 8-cup French Press, you have to fill the top twice. The inside is the dark grey ceramic burr from hario, no questions about it. This thing can make anything from Turkish coffee all the way to coarse French press. We plan on using it for spices, as well!!

Grinds very inconsistently.
Grinds very inconsistently. I believe the main reason for buying a grinder is to grind your beans to the coarseness you want. Well now, this grinder doesn't do that. Otherwise good looking item and feels like good quality and robust build until you start using it.

Many design flaws make this grinder very difficult to use.
I'll begin with the most serious problem. After six weeks of daily use, the burrs broke (see photos). But before this, I had already decided to abandon this grinder on account of its design flaws. The shaft is too wide to grip tightly, and so the resistance from the beans means it can be very hard to grind without pressing the grinder close to your torso to keep it from slipping. If you try to place the grinder on a flat surface to grind, it tips over if the beans provide a lot of resistance, because the base is not wide enough. Pressing down hard on the grinder doesn't solve the problem. Moreover, the adjustment nut comes loose as you grind, meaning that you constantly have to stop and tighten it; if you don't, it will loosen enough that the adjustment tab can jump notches, and you will get an uneven grind. Lastly, as a number of others have mentioned, the sliding door opens while you grind and the beans spill out, if you are holding the grinder at an angle (which you absolutely must do on account of the first problem). On the whole a frustrating and disappointing product from an otherwise good company.

This one won't open
This is my 4th time I have purchased this product. I had 2 overseas, one for home and one for office, but I gave them away when I left. I loved them so much, I bought a third when I came home. But I took that overseas and left it for when I return. So, I bought this one for while I'm back at home. It won't open. It's like someone glued the grinder to the bottom. I live in a very arid environment, I thought after a few days, maybe the wood would dry and then I could unscrew it. Didn't happen. I even left it outside during a Red Flag warning, still won't budge, not anything. This makes me sad, because I love this model of grinder, the hopper is suitable size, and I've never had a problem with the hopper door. I'm very sad because I'd never been disappointed with Hario before.
