Great toy
This toy looks better in person than it does on the website. I was very apprehensive about spending $70 on a toy without examining it in person. Where to begin...you can't tell from the picture but there are two "legs" that stick out the back past the wheels that prevent the walker from tipping backwards on to the child. The mechanism to control how fast the back wheels turn works excellently and is easy to use. I have been able to adjust it to work on several different surfaces (both hard surfaces and different thicknesses of carpet). the back wheels have rubber on them which creates a better grip on the floor and helps to slow down the walker. In front of the woodpeckers are two pieces of wood. each wood pecker taps on a different piece of wood. the woodpeckers peck at irregular intervals and at different times. the craftmenship is wonderful. the finish is beautiful. no flaws. no complaints. the handle bar is at a great height. i was afraid it would be too short for my son, but it definitely is not. the pecking noise is definitely not too loud or obnoxious. everyone who looks at it remarks about the quality and beauty of the piece. we looked at the melissa and doug walker in person (the one with the alligators) the quality is very inferior and the handle bar was way too short. My son is 11 months old and is able to walk easily with this toy. he has yet to manage turning it around when he runs into a wall. he also enjoys playing with the woodpeckers and turning the toy on its side so he can spinn the wheels. i am very happy we decided to splurge on this toy.

Disappointed - our vacuum cleaner works better as a walker
We got this walker to try to divert our son from using the canister vacuum as a walker, thinking that a toy designed for that purposed would be safer and just work better. For the amount we paid, I was very disappointed in the quality. The paint/stain is uneven and just looks like it was sloppily done. We've had this toy for a couple of months now and he is still more interested in playing with the parts of it rather than using it as a walker. I know that this is not a defect of the toy or its design; but I do not like that he can unscrew the knob that allows for you to control the resistance of the wheels - he unscrews it completely and immediately puts it in his mouth. I also feel that the toy is not well-balanced. He is interested in checking out the woodpeckers but when he puts weight on the front it slams down on top of him. Needless to say, we only get the toy out when we can closely supervise him - it is not one of those that he can use to entertain himself. And he still prefers to use the canister vac as a walker. What I do like about it is that it is very cute and I appreciate that it is non-toxic and eco-friendly. However, I would definitely recommend checking out other options.

Woodpecker Walker
I bought this walker for Christmas when my son was 10 months old. He was not yet walking, but pulling up and cruising. We put this together the night before and had it near the tree on Christmas morning. My son crawled right over, pulled himself up, and started to push the walker across the floor. He really loved this walker.Sadly, my son broke off two of the pegs that hold down the wood that the woodpeckers peck. I called Plan Toys and they were greatly concerned. They said we must have got a defective one because they never had any other complaints concerning the pegs coming out. The Plan Toys costumer service representative was SO sweet and helpful. She was extremely apologetic and said she was going to send a report to their quality control department immediately. They also sent me a brand new walker for no charge.Even though we had a little hiccup with this product, I still highly recommend it. The walker never tipped over when my son grabbed onto the bar, it's made of beautiful wood, and makes a lovely click clack sound that my son enjoyed. This toy was always fought over during play dates.

Great walker
At the suggestion of our physical therapist for our son, we purchased this walker. I read the other reviews of this product; seems like people were either very much for it or against it! I rolled the dice and bought it. The walker does not tip over when my son pulls up to standing when grasping the handle. Keep in mind that my son is very small for his age....is 20 pounds. Perhaps a heavier child pulling up would see a different result. The noise is no more than any other normal child-noise. It doesn't bother me and that's saying something as I detest loud noises. My son loves to walk with it and it's quite sturdy. Hasn't tipped at all. The only reason I gave 4/5 stars was that our particular walker has one woodpecker that, instead of staying forward facing as it's supposed to, would rotate backwards and then impedes the wheel axle. I used a rubberband to ensure the woodpecker (the brown one) doesn't flip backwards and that has solved the problem. So would I recommend this to you if you want a non-tipping walker for your child? Yes. Is the noise of the woodpeckers pecking too loud? No. Does my child enjoy it and spend more time walking with it than without? Yes. Is it sturdy? Yes.
