Have been using this tree stand for the last 3 Christmases
This is great for live trees. We take the removable insert with us to buy the tree. Once they lay the tree down and cut some lower branches, we get them to slice off a portion of the bottom. Then, we have them take a chainsaw and whittle down the sides, almost as if they were whittling it to a point. We don't go quite that far, but you want the very bottom of the tree resting all the way on the bottom of the insert.Once we get the cup to fully fit over the bottom of the tree, we turn the screws to secure it completely.Getting the tree straight on the stand when we get home is a breeze. I stand at the top of the stairs looking down while my husband and son rotate it around until it's at exactly the right spot. No screwing and unscrewing the tree over and over again. The tilt feature of the base makes that completely unnecessary. One more thing. The fact that we whittle the bottom of the tree just slightly at an angle up the sides in order to make it into the removable insert ensures that more of the bark is removed and more of the tree is exposed. This allows for more surface space for the tree to absorb water. Our trees need watering at least 2-3 times a day. I really think they soak up the water more because of the way we cut our tress to fit this stand. Our trees stay looking beautiful well past Christmas. This stand helps make that happen. Finally, when we remove the tree and put it out for the trash, we just pop the whole thing out of the base, drag it out to the curb, then unscrew the cup. Easy peasy. I'll never buy another cheap stand from the local home improvement store. This is our stand for the duration.

Fantastic Tree Stand
This was my 3rd tree stand purchase in the last 3 years and it looks like it will be my last for a while. I've tried all of them from the pin stands (tree fell over numerous times and broke numerous ornaments) to the old school screw the pins in and cross your fingers that it will not be crooked. Well not any more...this stand was easy to use and my tree went up very easy and even though it was crooked, the swivel feature allows you to move it until it's striaght. Absolutley perfect product and won't ever make you worry about geting your tree up ever again. I must have saved myself an hour or 2 at least using this stand. Sturdy as well and no fears of the tree tipping over. The one negative I will say is that the water resevoir isn't as big as I would have liked it to be as I had to water 2 times a day. But that shouldn't be the reason not to buy this stand.

Great Christmas Tree stand
I had this stand for years and something broke on it rendering it useless. I loved it because I could set up and level my tree without the help of anyone else. I looked locally for it to no avail. Then, when I found it again on Amazon, I quickly purchased it. It is designed a bit differently than the first one, and is better, I think. The way it holds on to the tree is better. All else is the same. You attach the small tree holder on to the end of your tree. After putting the dome piece at the desired location, you just drop in the tree and then level it via the foot pedal. Then, I pour in the water to keep the tree hydrated. It's a wonderfully designed stand, and I know it won't last forever, but I am enjoying the ease of leveling the tree with this stand.

A bit confusing - perhaps a "lemon"
Having read the overwhelmingly positive reviews of this tree stand prior to purchase, I’m wondering if ours was somehow a “lemon”. First: the pedal, by which you straighten the tree, was almost impossible to release. The instructions say to push the button ON THE SIDE of the stand to release the pedal. There is NO button on the side. The button is part of the pedal – a minor error. However, once we figured this out (very fast) the pedal would still not release. I read and re-read the instructions and then watched the You Tube video and still the pedal remained stuck. Finally, I used a thin flat head screwdriver to release the pedal clip on the bottom of the stand. Unfortunately, just as I thought “okay, this is good”, when I stepped on the pedal it immediately went back into the stand and once again became stuck in place. Upon re-doing the screwdriver technique, the pedal did release, but again, unfortunately, it not only released, it came completely off the stand. There is a small clip on the bottom of the stand where the pedal comes into the stand. This clip (very small and flimsy) keeps the pedal in position in or out of the stand. Carefully, I slid the pedal into place and depressed the small clip to hold it in place. Finally, we were ready to place the tree into the stand. It is important to note that the tree trunk must go completely into the holder, all the way to the bottom of the trunk holder. This may require you to remove lower tree branches, so I recommend that you take the trunk holder with you when you pick out your tree. I placed the secured tree trunk holder into the main stand and, once again following the instructions, held the trunk while depressing the pedal to adjust the tree. Oops – nothing happened. The pedal depressed, but the adjusting mechanism would not work. I took the trunk holder (with tree) out, tried to adjust the stand using the pedal and nothing happened. Turned the stand over, tried to figure out what wasn’t turning or working and noticed that there was some metal material (?) stuck within the mechanism. I removed this material and finally the adjusting mechanism turned. I placed the trunk holder with tree back into the stand and finally the stand adjusted as advertised. However, as soon as we released the tree, the adjusting mechanism shifted and the tree leaned. After several more adjustments to the unit itself, using an air spray to remove debris from within the adjusting mechanism (many metal filings of some sort and some odd pieces of plastic) we got the tree up and straight. Total number of times removing and replacing tree before the unit worked properly: 5. The pedal that is supposed to slip back into the stand will not slip back, but we simply turned the stand so that the pedal is away from where it can readily be seen.Once again, having read reviews of this stand both here on Amazon and on other consumer sites, I am convinced that our unit was somehow permitted by quality control prior to being shipped by the vendor. Our neighbors have the same stand and have used it for over ten years without having trouble. I suppose that regardless of how well a produce is made, there will always be at least a few lemons that reach the consumer. We certainly could have returned the unit to Amazon, who would have replaced it or refunded our money, but we really wanted the tree up today before our holiday guests arrive.

Great tree stand
Second I have purchased. My first, purchased 10 years ago, still works great. This went to the office. No break downs or failures. Set up is fast and easy. Straightening is likewise. Learned of this from friends who purchased theirs about 12 to 15 years ago and theirs is still going strong. I recommended this stand to two others and they have 8 and 6 years without a hitch. I never had a stand last more than two years - went to 2X4's with a spike and shims, for years. What a pain!. The swivel straight stand exceeds expectations. That's a standard that is seldom met in a product. Great product!!!
