Well built product but very picky about the USB/SD card
We purchase this unit for playing in the office/lobby enviroment. The product is well made, all buttons are very responsive. The buttons also feel firm and tight which indicate good components. All functions work as advertised. AM/FM radio has a dedicated output is a nice feature to have (so you can play CD/USB/SD at the same times with AM/FM). There are balanced output but we do not use. Rack-mount 1U is very compact and easy to deployNow, the media requirement (USB/SD) is rather boring and somewhat limited to what the company tests only. There are 2 documents that list the make and the model number of the USB and SD card. You must use these only otherwise, there is a very good chance that your current USB/SD card will not work. We are an IT company and we have lots of USB/SD cards laying around but none of them work with the unit. We have to purchase a specific ones (the ones that list in the product specifications), then it worksFinally, we wish if it can be controlled using a simple TCP/IP protocol instead of the aging and not user-friendly Telnet protocolOverall, highly recommended

Adjust ATTenuation in menu to reduce distortion due to over-driven preamp inputs
When I first connected the Tascam CD-400U I was disappointed with the audio quality. I heard a grainy irritating distortion that was fatiguing and unpleasant to listen to. I was on the verge of returning the unit when I thought "that sounds like an over-driven stage". So I went into the menu and set the audio Attenuation control to -10dB. Immediately the distortion was gone and the audio quality is quite good. I believe the high output of the CD-400U without attenuation was over-driving the inputs to my Adcom preamp. Audio quality with -6dB of attenuation or greater is very good. I've given it the "serious listening" test with lights off, eyes closed, and a little buzz.and it gets a "thumbs up" rating. Sounds very good to me! I went from almost returning the product to a happy owner with a simple menu tweak. I was tempted to give only 4 stars because there is no digital output to feed my DAC but I had the option of buying other units with that feature and decided I like the 1U rack height and available tuners. In my opinion, it's a good buy.

Great Unit
I got this for my studio mainly because it has blue tooth though all the features are great. The noise floor seems to be very low, I like the assortment of output types (I use the XLRs) and all the controls have a professional feel. I also like the fact that you can configure the output power, similar to a mixing board.

Good reception and audio quality
Good reception and audio quality. Installed at our campus TV studio to bring in local broadcast FM stations for encoding redistribution on our campus network (this is just a tuner, we feed this audio into a Dante transmitter for mixing and eventually to a Barix Instreamer for IP transmission across our network)
