What's the difference between the new version and the old version?

TOPS, the manufacturer of this product and its sister product, TOPS Docket 99708, has changed the spiral ring size making it nearly useless. The old version had a spiral ring Interior diameter (ID) of 1.9mm and 19 rings. The new version has a spiral ring ID of 1.6mm and 24 rings. It is very difficult to flip the pages in the new version.

How many pounds is the paper weight? I'm looking for a top spiral 6"x9" with heavy paper that writing doesn't show through the other side.

Any standard steno pad as this are pretty much all the same. Being 66 and having used these since school when I took shorthand, using them at work, and at home for various purposes — they are all pretty much the same.  Numbers of pages use to be standard at 60 and then some decided to give a few extra to encourage folks to buy theirs because there wasn’t any other difference.  You will see the writing faintly from the back or front of the page (more or less) depending on the ink you are using. If using pencil, its barely noticeable.  But as someone else said, it’s not really ever been an issue for most of us.  Maybe you have some difference purpose.  There are many brands, I tend to stick to US made like SMC, National, Ampad, etc. The better quality will be found at your local office supply store etc. I’m sure there are some cheap plastic covered foreign made ones but I stick to the cardboard cover ones that easily breakdown in the dump.  I also save and use the covers for packing small items.  And I might add—you can buy these for less than a dollar up to around $1.50, certainly under $2 each anywhere in your town.

What I don’t understand is why anyone would pay these prices on Amazon.  They can be found at any drug store, Walmart, office supply, even some grocery stores and the occasional hardware as woodworkers use them to keep track of measurements, and making drawings.  Though I buy some things through Amazon (after careful research), I really feel people are paying too much for convenience. The standards are 6”x9” and 60-100 pages with top spiral bound.  All I know of are Gregg ruled, green paper though I have seen some white. The ones I buy are US made — most state on the front cardboard cover, the brand and where they are located.  The paper is green because it reduces eye strain and many years ago, secretaries used these all day taking dictation —  letters, reports, etc from her boss and then typing for signature. But many industries used them for many purposes as they still do today.

I have a Prime account but it’s not due to so called free shipping because shipping is actually included in every item you buy. I get it due to convenience, the movies, free reading books etc. They should change it “shipping included” not  “free shipping”. Many things I don’t buy through them because I can buy the item much cheaper through the company’s own website even with shipping charges.  But I also use Amazon, if the prices make sense, due to the Amazon Smile program so my favorite charity gets some benefit though it is a pretty small amount.  Better something than nothing and nothing forces Amazon to do this. But we have to signup, make sure our charity is signed up, and make sure you use the Amazon Smile website. It doesn’t work through their regular Amazon. Com.  I don’t know why they do it that way, but they do.

My suggestion unless you are disabled or elderly and you can’t get out, to buy local.  Support our local stores, or before long, we will have to buy everything from Amazon.  I’m not fond of monopolies and stores like big boxes have run most of our centuries old mom and pops or small business brick/mortar stores out of business and it’s a shame. We have plasticized America so every town has the same chain restaurants and big box stores from one end to the other.  SAD.
