Great All-Around Camping/Outdoor Fixed Blade Knife
This is a pretty good knife in any class. It's not a great knife, it's not a fantastic knife. As far as "quality knives" go, I feel this knife slides just under the wire and sits at the bottom of that list. Personally, I think most Gerber knives are just hype and marketing, but this one is on a very short list of "pretty decent" Gerber knives. (I'm no knife expert, just read a bunch, talked to lots of people to get their opinions and looked at several types of knives.)I've owned the fine edge version of this for about a year or so and fell in love with it, so I decided to also get the combo edge version. These knives are very well balanced and comfortable to hold. They feel great to use and are very sturdy. It's 440A steel all the way through -thick, solid, full tang with a lanyard hole that's perfect for 550 para cord. Comes from Gerber sharp enough to shave hair off my arm. If this were 154CM steel, this knife would be totally awesome (but it would be 4-5 times the price, too ...and I'd be willing to pay it). This is a low-carbon steel, so you could probably use this diving and is less likely to rust while holding a pretty good edge and easy to sharpen. The grips are very comfortable and, even if they get damaged from long-term use, you can remove them and wrap it with 550 para cord or something.Everyone is down on the sheath. While I agree, it's acceptable. Would be nice if it had a leg strap or tie or something to keep it stabilized on the thigh while hiking. Would be nice if Gerber added some kind of loop or slot at the bottom...anything would be nice, and it wouldn't really add to the cost.Overall: EXCELLENT VALUE! You won't find a better fixed blade knife for the price. For something just a little bit better you'll pay twice as much.

Great Price And Well Made!
Looks good! Nice heft, full tang, no defects that I can see to the metal (pitting, etc). The grip is not wood but a very comfortable (silicone type?) material that has lots of cross-hatched tread to it to prevent you from losing your grip. I like the serrated upper part of the blade. Just wish it was about half an inch to 3/4" longer, for batoning wood or whatever with less injury (I'm a clutz)...however: the clutz in me also knows that the approx 4.5" blade is more manageable and less dangerous as well. I'm happy with the sheath as well. Somebody who uses this constantly can find custom made sheath makers out there but this will be good for most. Not junk by any means!Educate yourself from a reliable source on how to care for the knife, as I will have to do, because there is no care information for the less knowledgeable among us.For somebody with lots of camping experience as a kid/teen, but not with fancier tastes, I would say this is a great choice. For an amateur I'd say this is a great start. It'll last and do the job for what I have heard is a very long time, and shouldn't let you down if this was your only knife on hand on a few weeks out in the woods, etc.One last note, use the loop hole to attach some bright neon orange paracord (550) so if this falls in the bush, trail or leaves you'll be less likely to lose it. Don't want to be without it.

This knife is well liked but as we all know it was orphaned not ...
I became a big Gerber fan,and I must thank those who know more than me that wrote reviews. This knife is well liked but as we all know it was orphaned not coming with an acceptable sheath. After listing to one reviewer I ordered a LMF II,this knife comes with a sheath for the field sharpener. The Coyote Brown sheath accepts the Big Rock camp knife.A plastic liner from the sheath that came with the Camp Knife fits in this sheath and this needs to be attached to the fabric inside.Modification to take out t fold over on the Velcro strap will be tapered down and seamed to match, but it works without any modification. Then I took a Gerber Basic knife/serrated-drop point and with the clip to the outside put this into the middle band on the back side from the Big Rock. This puts two camp tools together in a sheath to put in a day pack or with the tools in the truck. And finally an Ultrafire Mini Cree flashlight clips on the back side to the right below the Basic Knife for an easy to find flashlight .When this is all tightened down it will be good enough to strap on the outside of a pack going through brush.

Not the same but not disappointed
Knife has a different marking on it than what is pictured. Also has a cheaper looking sheath with it, it doesn't have the 2 rivets on the blade side like what is pictured. I've had one of these knives for over 12 years now and figured I'd buy another when I found it again. Compared to the old one, this one has a better feeling in hand handle but it seems like they profiled the blade slightly different so it's 1/4 of an inch smaller.

A great knife for the money
I bought two of these exact knives with the plain edge and this knife (with the serrated edge). I like them immensely. They are very sharp and keep an edge for a long time and are easy to maintain sharp. The knife is stainless steel and is a full tang. The rubberized type handle is great for gripping if your hands are wet or cold or both. This knife is great for doing fine detail work as well as cutting through rope and other things that the fine edge might now do as well with. However, I do like the two knives that I bought that have the plain edge the best, only because I use them much more often, but keep this serrated edge knife as backup for cutting tough materials.

Mejor de lo que esperaba. Great Deal

Knife is not EXACTLY as shown
I've had the plain edge version of this knife for years and bought this partially serrated one to add to my collection of hall of fame-ers (sadly, my preferred plain edge is discontinued so serrated it is!). For the price I believe this knife to be one of the best overall value camp/general task knives. It may not be a high-end knife, but Gerber is a trusted name for a reason. However, I find it frustrating when seller's don't have ACCURATE photos of their items, which is why this knife loses a star rating. Because I purchased this knife as a 'back-up' to go into my collection, one of the reasons in purchasing from THIS seller was the logo icon displayed on the knife. The listing photo had a nice tasteful and subdued icon, but the knife I received has a large obnoxious "GERBER" name written across the top. I admit, the printed logo has no bearing on the function of the knife, but I don't like large names written on my blades, especially if they go in my collection to be 'admired' while the beater is the one I use (see photos of logo comparisons). So, If you are as obsessed about knives like me and don't like large names across your blade, you may want to double check with the seller before purchasing. Although, for the price, I'll keep it.That said, if you don't care about the logo I highly recommend this blade for a number of general utility tasks. It's a fantastic 'starter' knife for kids as it holds an edge well but still easy to sharpen. If they break it or lose it, it's cheap enough to replace. While I don't hunt with this knife, I've read other reviews of people who have and they say very good things about it. Don't let the knife snobs sway you about the metal. It's a very decent knife for the price.I have this knife in rotation with some of my other very expensive knives because I love the feel and fit of this knife. It's ergonomics are on par with its expensive counterparts, for sure. Some find the handle a little thin, but for my large hands it 'fits like a glove'. In fact, I love it so much I even purchased an after market kydex sheath. One day I'll modify my original with upgraded handmade scales. In the meantime, if I break or lose my original I can take this new one out of the collection, pop it into my kydex sheath and into my regular rotation.Highly recommend for: Camping, Hiking, Fishing/Small Game Hunting, Around the house, Emergency Bag

Gerber Big Rock Camp Knife
I've been buying knives for years. Gerber has always made a good product in my opinion. This knife is no different, well finished and comfortable in the hand, it has a hole at the end of the handle so a lanyard can be added. It comes with a nylon cordura sheath with a hardshell insert to keep the blade from cutting through the sheath.Thick along the spine this knife is well built for the rigors of camping and outdoor activities.Good knife at a good price.

Bueno
Se ve bien y de buena calidad por el precio que se paga, lo que no me gusta es que sea chino. Hay que ponerlo a pruebas fuertes a ver como se desempeña. Llegó en tiempo y forma.
