The Epic is WAAAAY better than the Trail.
I mostly trail ride in non-muddy conditions.I do not like the Easyboot Trail (size 3) and ended up purchasing the Easyboot Epic (size 1), too.Cons:1st - The Trail is very BULKY. The Epic is much sleeker and I imagine the horse finds the Epic easier to maneuver in.2nd - I bought the Trail for my 14.3 hh AQHA that needed a Size 3 Trail on one hoof and a Size 4 Trail on the other hoof. The horse absolutely could not keep the Trail on while riding down a gravel road at a slow canter, even when I put the Size 3 on the hoof that measured as needing a Size 4. The hoof print size of the Epic size 1 is slightly bigger than the Trail size 3 and smaller than the Trail size 4, but this horse measured as needing a Size 1 Epic on both feet. The Epic has never come off, and I do not latch it down as hard as you are supposed to (out of laziness). The horse I bought the Trail for has what I consider to be a standard size hoof capsule height (distance from hairline to bottom of hoof) and he would pull out of the top of the Trail no matter how hard I tried to flatten the Trail down. I have another horse (15.2 hh stout AQHA) that measures as needing a Size 3 and Size 4 Trail (what's the likelihood that would happen!), but he has a taller hoof capsule and he can keep the Trails on if I pull the back strap as tightly as possible. My 14 yr old daughter sometimes doesn't get the back strap tight enough and he pulls through the top while riding.Pros:1st - The Trail is easy to get on, it is a bit awkward because you have to hold that front piece forward while trying to get it on the hoof, but it is not unreasonably hard, my 14 yr old can do it. The Epic is a bit harder to get on because the wire across the front prevents the sides from spreading as wide from side-to-side as the Trail, but my 14 yr old can put it on with no trouble.2nd - The Trail is easier to ensure you have the correct size because you can pull the front forward and see how well the horse fills out the sole.I tried the Epics on a 15 hh Spotted Gaited horse and another 14.3 AQHA, both of which have what I consider to be a standard hoof capsule height. The size 1 Epics fit them both and did not come off. I'm almost 100% certain they both would have pulled out of the top of the Trails if they had tried to use them. I did not measure the hoof prints of these horses, but upon pulling back the side of the Trail size 3, both horses would have needed Trail size 3s.BTW - I have used the Easyboot Edge for years and love them, but the Epics are a heck of alot easier to get on and the Epics stay on just as well.I have also tried the Easyboot Glove. They are a pain to get on under perfect conditions, and impossible to get on if the hooves are not perfectly trimmed every time you want to ride. Any flaring and you absolutely cannot get them on. I am interested to see if the Easyboot Bare somehow corrects that problem.

Keep coming off
I've only used these a few times. The first time we were in some water, not necessarily muddy. My friend noticed one was gone. Needless to say we backtracked and I was able to find it. I put it back on. On the way back we went down and up a little ditch. He lost it again.Today we were just in the arena. Now normally I wouldn't have used it in the arena but we were planning on going on trail until the wind kicked up. So cantering around the arena sure enough, boot came off. They appear to fit him perfectly. I am careful about making sure the straps are well secured. But these are very frustrating. I have another horse with what is also called the EasyCare Easyboot Trail, different design. Those are great. I would not purchase these again. Really frustrating because they're not cheap!

Easy to put on, harder to keep on
My horse loves them and he is not an easy customer. The first time, they were very hard to get on because he wanted no part of it. But once he tried them, he was hooked. He is much more comfortable going over rocky ground with them. The only problem is that I measured him right after a trim (as per the instructions) but after about 2 weeks, the boots no longer fit well and then come off in mud or wet sand. If the velcro was longer, I think they would stay on. I would give them 5 stars but having to get off mid-ride and pack a mud-caked boot home in my jacket is worth a star or two.

I like the way the front of the boot opens up and folds down making them super easy to put on and take off. I like the idea of boots but have tried others in the past that were such a pain to use I just quit. My problem with these boots is that after only a few hours of use the bottom seam started to come undone. Also the velcro strap in the back needs to be switched around depending on whether you're using it on right or left hoof and I was unable to get the screws undone.

Never again.
I have been using a different brand of boots for over 10 years. Tried these for the lower price. You get what you pay for. The thin Velcro strap won't stay fastened and after only 3 weeks, the seam along the coronary band is already coming unseen. Will never buy these again.

Over Priced and stitching was coming apart when it arrived, so we returned it. decided to get a refund and not a replacement, did not need to have to resend the replacement for the same issues.

Work as advertised
Love these boots. Our mare has soft feet that hurt to ride on anything more than grass. With these boots we can ride right down the gravel road.
