Before ordering this ring, I read all of the reviews. I saw where some said that it wouldn't work on 14, 16 or 18 gauge rings and that the ring itself was to small to fit their fingers. I'm not going to dispute these claims as not justified but if they received the same tool that I did, they are wrong. First of all, I use exclusively 16 and 18 gauge rings and they will fit into 3 of the 4 slots that are on the tool. I buy mine from reputable jewelry supply sites so I know they are measured correctly. Secondly, the tool itself is probably a size 6 ring. It is not made to fit all the way onto your finger. It is made to go over the first knuckle of your index finger. Mine goes all the way to the second knuckle. It is made to just slide onto the end of your index finger and I use my thumb to steady it. If your index finger is larger than size 6 before or at the first knuckle, then it may be too small for you. Most people will not have any problem at all with this tool. As for the tool itself, WOW, it makes opening jump rings incredibly fast. I can open about 25-30 in a minute vs about 10-15 using two sets of pliers. Someone that has been doing this for awhile could probably go a lot faster than someone like me that has just been doing it a couple of months. Newbies would definitely benefit using this tool. I open about 40-50 rings to start then I leave the ring on my finger as I work and can quickly open or widen an open ring in seconds without ever picking up another tool. I highly recommend this tool for Chain Maille.

I ordered on Saturday morning and got it by Monday. It's nicer and shiner than I expected, and I actually have been wearing it as jewelry/conversation piece. I have very small hands, so I think it should be noted that there appears to be only one size, and it's small. I haven't had a chance to work with it yet, since my wire seems to be taking much longer to come from a different seller, but I will update my review if I have any problems, but I think it will serve it's purpose well. I've done chain jewelry for years and this thing seems like a great idea, and if nothing else it's an interesting ring for the price.

if you're like me, and use your fingers to close jump rings, this tool is an ingenious way to reduce the amount of jabbing you receive from stubborn jump rings. i reach for this little ring every time i need to open or close a jump ring, takes less than 2 seconds to open/close them, with no strain on the fingers. great purchase, highly recommend :) i will note, it won't look as clean and shiny as it is when you receive it after using it for some time. it'll start to chip/show indents, but honestly? since it still works like it did when i received it, i don't mind the rugged look much lol. just shows you're getting use for your product :p

Very nice product! Was a gift to my woman, and she absolutely loves it! Shipped earlier than expected and all pieces were included nothing missing. Would buy again and recommend to anyone interested in chainmail crafting.

I'd rate 4.5/5 if that was an option, but it isn't, so I rounded down. Basically, this ring is great, particularly for someone new to chainmaille, IF you're one of the lucky ones who's fingers are small enough that it will fit. I am that lucky, and I love this device! It fits snugly on top of the knuckle of my thumb on my non-dominant hand, and I've been able to cut the time necessary for the tedious process of opening a bunch of jump rings at the start of a project in half. Pick up a ring in the fingers of my left hand, transfer to the correct orientation of the pliers waiting in my right hand, insert into the slot on the ring on my left thumb, quick 30° or so twist, and I'm done. I've been using it worth 18 guage plated copper rings, and so far not a single scratch to be seen. I'll admit it could be better - the ring is definitely designed for tiny fingers and they should have a larger option available. Also don't expect to close jump rings with this device - you can't create nearly enough inward force to close a ring with out a gap. But as long as you keep that in mind, the ring does what its supposed to do and is a great time saver! Edit, 6 months later: I'm more experienced with chainmaille now, and i barely use this tool... I found that particularly with saw cut rings, it made it difficult to open the rings right, which could lead to a warped ring later on when you go to close it - not good for fine jewelry like I usually make. However, if I were to use pinch or machine cut rings for a larger and less detailed project, I'd consider using this tool. So for someone interested in making large sheets of costume mail? Go for it. Maile jewelery, not so much.

Small and mighty. When I couldn't find this ring I ordered 2 more! I make chainmaille and scalemaille jewelry. So I open and close hundreds and thousands of jump rings. This product is by far my favorite for opening a pile of them at a time. I don't reccomend using it to close rings, mostly because getting the angle just right to line up and "click" the sides of the jump ring ring past each other means also digging the ring into your finger. Pro tip: don't wear the ring all the way down your finger ... for one it's not possible on most of us. Ha. You wear it on your first knuckle. Also curl your hand into a fist instead of twisting the ring on an outstretched finger, and brace the ring with your thumb as you insert the jump ring so the ring holds still when you twist the jump ring in the slot. This will save you fatigue. Using this hand posturing I feel so much better than using 2 pliers and I go a lot faster. Spread tip: when opening tons of jump rings, put the ring on your non dominant hand and pliers in your dominant. Use the ringed hand to pick up your jump ring and place it in the pliers with the cut facing correctly. Then insert the jump ring and twist. This meathod has me opening a ring in just under a second at a time!

I have been using this for quite some time with chainmail. It is extremely useful and has upped my productivity if even by a few seconds.... But heck, when you save yourself 5 seconds or so by closing a jump ring with this ring as opposed to constantly readjusting and holding a second set of pliers, it's worth it. After closing 1000 rings you'll realize that it saves quite a bit of time and is very much worth your money. My only regret is that the prolonged use scratches away it's top metal and reveals another that will progressively turn your finger green. It's a great fashion item up until that point.
