Gale Force Nine Tanks: Panther vs Sherman Starter Set Board Game

Really fun game! Add a few trees (27 trees for 9.99 on Amazon), some paper-craft buildings (found at wwpd.net and search for Normandy buildings) and it looks super great on a GaleForceNine gaming mat. I've been an avid X-Wing player for a few years now, and although very similar, this has been a great game to break away to for a spell.Tank cards have a familiar layout if you've played X-Wing/Star Trek Attack Wing, etc. There are ratings for Initiative, Firepower, Armor (defense) and Damage/HP. No shields though, which accounts for the missing stat slot. ;-)Movement and speed are determined and executed in real time, blending Star Wars Armada ships and squadrons movement. This is accomplished using a short movement template in the shape of an arrow. Simply touch the base of the arrow to any part of the tank, point it in any direction and end the tank's movement so that the body of the tank is square against the template edge, facing one of four directions at any distance from the point of origin (up to the length of the ruler). Normally, tanks can make two moves per turn, but there are mechanics and effects which can increase or reduce the maximum speed.There are no range limitations for combat. The entire 36" x 36" play area is in play and from turn one (as long as there's line of sight), a tank can target enemies at any distance. All combat is performed with standard six-sided dice, which are included. A result of 4, 5 or 6 is counted as a success. An attacker's result of 6, is a critical hit and if not cancelled, results in a damage card being drawn. Damage marker tokens represent regular, non-critical damage. The rules determining how many dice are rolled are pretty straightforward, but I wont go into them in detail here. In short, attacker and defender each figure out how many dice are in their dice pool (based on armor rating, total speed of both tanks, cover state, orientation, distance, critical effects) and simply roll it out and compare. There are no "actions" here as in other games to convert unsuccessful results into successes. There are, however, a limited number of re-roll conditions/scenarios.List building is very similar to Star Trek Attack Wing or Armada, in that you have the option to crew up your tank. In this sense, it is less like X-Wing; there are no unique tanks, only some crew. There are also modifications and upgrades which are very thematic and add a ton of flavor to this game. There are some callbacks to the characters represented in the movie "Fury." There are also recognizable elements from the video game, World of Tanks. If WWII tanks and X-Wing style games are your thing, this game is your thing.The 1:100 models require assembly, but they are quick and simple to build. They are cast in appropriate colors, but look much better with at least a base coat of flat acrylic on the body and black or dark grey on the tracks. A quick wash will bring out the details. For color guidance and painting tips, there are Flames of War painting tutorials on YouTube for these same models.A ton of tank expansions are already out -- and a nice stack of tank cards come with the set so you can bring in a fair number of Battlefront models into this game if you also play Flames of War.I should mention that TANKS goes great with beer!

A most excellent game. I was introduced to this game by a friend and had already began purchasing some of the additional tanks to play games at his house. I decided to end up purchasing the starter set for myself so I could play the game at home with my kids. This game is an excellent combination of model building, model painting, war gaming, strategy, and luck. You will need at least basic knowledge of putting together models, you will need an exacto knife and modeling glue in order to assemble your tanks. You can play the game with the tanks unpainted, but painting them us MUCH more fun and adds more of a sense of realism. After assembling the tanks, you set up a playing field and decide on a point value for the battle. Each player then builds an army out of tanks and support cards that equal or are less than the point value agreed upon. The instructions detail the rules of the game, but essentially each player takes turns moving their tanks and firing at the opposing tanks. Hits and damage are determined by the power of the tank, the amount of dice you can roll, and how many opposing "defending" dice are rolled to cancel out hits. My kids played this game three times so far, each game taking around an hour (the box states the games are about 30 minutes...I find they go a little longer the more crafty and sneaky the kids get with their tanks on the battlefield). The winner is the player with all or some of their tanks remaining.Additional tanks can be purchased and come with their corresponding cards. There are cards for all the tanks included in the starter set and you can substitute blocks or rubber erasers for a tank if you want to supplement your starter army. Inside the starter kit you get two Sherman tanks and one Panther tank.

The best war game you will ever playOk so for one It does come with some thick almost board game more material like terrain pieces two exactly of the forest one is a little bit bigger than the other and they are reversible and it also comes with four buildings which are also reversible...it also doesn’t come with glue or anything like that so would recommend that if you get this yourself and if buy it for anybody or yourself you at least make Sure that you have at least some basic modeling skills...I would recommend the metal earth tool kit and the extra thin Tamiya cement for these kinds of kits.

The game plays relatively quick and I have been having fun playing the game with my son.

Great value for the price and very good quality models. Wish there were two german tanks. Reality is this is a game and the games rules are WAY off from realistic and are balanced to where the two US tanks are really over powered for the single German tank even with all the special skills. I really recommend if you're getting this to order an extra German tank to balance the game.

Quick to learn rules, the included tanks models are high quality and very detailed for 1/100th scale.

Tanks is easy to play and has a lot of game options. As a group game night we brought the expansions and played on a homemade battle field of 8ftx8ft battle map with builds, roads and other cover. We have played many tanks wars and plan on playing many more.

The seller was excellent to do business with. The fault I must report is in the quality of the miniatures in the game They're excellently detailed, but come in many parts and are difficult to assemble. Also, the plastic used is not what I would expect for wargame miniatures. It seems more like model kit plastic, lighter and less durable than I normally expect from miniatures.

Hay quien lo definiría como el xwing de los tanques ya que cada uno tiene caracteristicas propias y hay cartas de mejoras asi como un sistema de puntos para conformar los equipos. Sólo por el coste de los tanques que incluye ya merece la pena, pero el contenido está muy bien con escenografia de carton (puedes pasar con el tanque por encima), tokens (sin ellos dificil jugar) y dados verdes y grises pero sin los simbolos de los paises. Si puedes compralo, es un acierto seguro.

Excellent game for those who are new (and experienced) with 15mm tabletop games. A simple game with a surprising amount of depth and customisation; with a few of the expansion packs op top of this, no two games will be alike. You can even use your Flames of War tanks if you have the corresponding cards.
