Big hit
Bought this for my father-in-law as he is a huge fan of popcorn. Not only did he love it, but he spent at least two hours reading over each recipe after receiving it. It contains recipes which popcorn is a key ingredient, all of which are very gourmet-like, unique, and tasty.

Too Many Useless Recipes
I purchased this book and returned it shortly after. About half of the recipes were useless novelty like recipes. This book was more like a coffee table book not a serious recipe book.

Could be a great book but I am not sure that it is!
I found this book by chance in my local Lakeland store. I rediscovered popcorn a little while ago because I cut out a few recipes from a magazine and started trying them out. As I was having trouble making really crisp popcorn I searched for information online and found the method described in this book, which works a treat. Then I came across this book. The recipes seem fantastic but, after having a close look I am not sure that one doesn't need to find too many ingredients that are not really mainstream. I am new to the UK so I might be wrong therefore I will start looking for them. The recipes somehow seem American rather than British. Then there is at least one recipe that shows twice Golden Syrup in the ingredient and in the recipe but that can't be right? Why would one add Golden Syrup and Golden Syrup? I have to say that I dislike cook books with mistakes because you don't know how many more you will find and how many ingredients you will be throwing away. The portions also seem quite bit but that is not really a problem, one can always serve them to more people or just make smaller portions. Instead of portions of popped popcorn I would have liked to see the grams mentions as it would be easier. Of course two portions is one recipe and 1 portion is ½ a recipe but then you get for example 1/5 of a portion. Too much hassle.... Flaked coconut or shredded coconut... one see both mentioned but maybe they are just talking about shredded coconut? Because they are different things. There is also a recipe which requires 450g of Golden Syrup, that seems quite a lot for two portions? Another one asks for 175g brown sugar and 350g maple syrup. I am going to try it but again, it seems rather sweet to me. As far as the care to say that the recipe with a bit of Amaretto liqueur is only for adults come on, in the whole scheme of things one will probably hardly taste it anyway as it is a reasonably small amount and it is cooked so there won't be any alcohol left. Rather PC if you ask me....In the whole the book seems rather interesting and there are recipes that are based o popcorn and added flavours, others with added dried fruits and nuts... There are recipes for popcorn bars, balls and even savoury recipes and recipes for cupcakes and cakes using popcorn..Here are the recipes I have tried so far:- Quick Cajun Popcorn - I didn't really like it but that is my personal taste!- County Fair Kettel Corn - Very good but look for more instructions online so that you don't burn it!- Craberry Punch Popcorn - Very good- Garlic and Thyme Popcorn with Black Pepper - Very good- Lemon Basil Buttered Popcorn - Very good- Pretzel and Peanut Popcorn Bars - Very good but my bars stayed quite sticky- Rosemary Popcorn with Pine Nuts - Very good but I wonder whether leaving the popcorn to marinate before popping really enhances the flavour. My best guess is no!- Sun-dried Tomato and Basil Popcorn - Very goodSo although at first sight it maybe seem that my 3 starts are a bit harsh the problems I spotted are still there: many ingredientes hard to find and some récipes don't see to add up but those I haven't tried yet!

Great fun guaranteed! Pop 'til you can Pop no More!
Once again Carol Beckerman delivers the goods in the latest of her clear, fun and reliable books. I have her previous ones on breakfasts, slow cooking, and gluten free dishes and can't recommend them enough, so I was excited to find this new book on everyone's favorite movie snack: Popcorn! The author serves up novel new ways to enjoy popcorn. Everything from Italian, BBQ, Cajun and Thai are covered. And you thought it only came buttered! The caramelized recipes are amazing. I've taken bowls to parties and the whole batch disappears in a matter of minutes. I use some recipes more than others, but its great to have so many options to choose from. Kettle corn is a quick and easy recipe for last minute cravings and the chocolate recipes all make great homemade gifts.Tip: always use butter or oil in these recipes. I think some reviewers have had issues because they're using margarine. This has a high water content and will not work correctly. It's a common mistake to make, and makes the popcorn deflate.Overall the recipes are delicious and the design is really nice. I just gave a copy to my friend for her birthday and she loves it too!

Very Americany
Not that impressed with the book. The ingredients and quantities are American. I have another book which is American and they have given metric quantities as well as imperial. They have also included a glossary at the back so you can look up ingredients you don't recognise to find out what the British equivalent is. This is not the case with this book. Some of the ingredients are not going to be so easy to find in Britain and will probably be expensive. There seem to be a lot of ingredients needed for the recipes too, a lot of which won't be readily available in the cupboard. Then there's the fact it was written for American taste buds. Very very sweet and some unusual combinations. I probably won't use any of the recipes in the 'savory dishes & desserts' chapter. The picture is of Praline Popcorn. I could only eat a handful as it was so sweet and sickly. My son loved it though :0SAll in all, not a winner for me. Ok for a bit of inspiration from a dozen or so recipes, but that's about it.

Great little book
Bought as a Christmas present along with a popcorn maker for a 10 year old. He found the popcorn maker fascinating and seemed really excited to try out the recipes in the book. Good range of different ideas from sweet to savoury.
