Works very well. Been using ugly stick my whole life. Obviously not top of the line but for the price you can’t beat. I run this with 3000ft of 80 braided on it with no issues. Easily pulls up all the fish I catch and I don’t worry about breakage at all. Stays in garage or on boat in salt water. Stands up so far. I also have 6 other ugly sticks going back to the 90s. Seems quality is the same. Love this pole. The feel is great and the flexibility is right on for holding large weights without a lot of bend. When a fish hits you know. Also has a lot of strength to pull snags. Use out at islands off California.

Buy this rod!
Awesome rod! Light weight, small and super strong. Update........I have now used this rod for a bunch of haddock trips. I usually jig with it using 5oz to 7oz jigs. I can't believe how great this rod is. I can jig all day with it because it is so light but with incredible power. A lot of jealous people on board the party boat. I highly recommend this rod!

BROKE UNDER PRESSURE

All of my rods have broken easily and there is no customer service.
I purchased three of these rods and all of them have broken under light use. When I followed up with ugly stick, about the warranty, they have not returned my calls, or my emails. These things have a warranty and name only. No one will answer your call, or your email. Good luck getting a refund or a replacement. I’ve always purchased ugly stick rods because I’ve been pretty happy with them, but no longer.

Building my own rods now
I have owned plenty of ugly stiks in the past. I believe they are starting to get a little cheaper on quality. I got this rod to take to North Carolina. Used one day and caught numerous smaller snapper,triggerfish and sea bass. Caught an amberjack @40lbs and loss a couple too. A couple days later noticed the epoxy around the stripper guide was cracked and guide was loose. Called ugly and they sent a brand new one. The new ones tip is about 10 degrees out off alignment.I'm starting to doubt ugly stiks and am now starting to build my own rods.
