Who Was? Workbook: Grade 3 Science/Social Studies (Who Was? Workbooks)

Bought this for my 3rd grader and didn't receive as much complaint when she worked on it. Variety of people covered, the content was grade appropriate and the questions were free answer (most if not all), so some thought had to go into writing a response rather than just multiple choice.

My kiddo loves the show on Netflix so I bought this book and he loves it just as much!

I love how much social studies it has! It barely has maybe 3 science pages in the whole book! I will need to get a separate science book other than that it's great!!

The kids love "Who Was," so we've been using this book in homeschool. Great, short passages woth close reading suggestions. Activities after each passage that review key concepts and skills in Soc Stud and ELA.

I thought there would be more science work, there's barely any.

Writing on the pages while they're in the book is difficult (bent and unsupported, rising instead of staying flat), especially for a student who's struggling in writing. The pages aren't perforated for removal. Even if I cut them out of the book, they're printed front and back--I'd be cutting out part of the following lesson as well, so I can't just put specific pages in an organized, easy-to-carry daily folder for my kid to do. The material looks good but the format is a huge letdown and setback for the system I was trying to develop around here.As for content, it's pretty good skimming biographies for the target age, along with a changing variety of types of questions and exercises to do with each one, not just fill-in-the-blank or multiple choice for each one. The content is pretty clear. But all of the included figures in law and politics are hardcore liberals without any solid conservatives for anything resembling balance. If you like that, you'll love this workbook. If you don't like that, at least now you know before you buy.
