Does this case support sleep mode?

The case alone does not support sleep mode. The air pod max has to be in its original case from Apple while inside the Spigen case to activate sleep mode.

Recently bought a competitor's case and it stunk of chemicals. How are these?

I’ve had them for three months so far. Still smells fresh and new.

Do the AirPods fit in the case even when the headband is fully extended?

Yes. I tested with my APM and they fit fine with the headband fully extended.

Does this case stink of chemicals?

Not that I was aware! I is a great case for my Apple AirPod Max and worth the cost. When it was delivered and I opened it, I was not aware of the smell of chemicals.
