What a book.
What a well-written, insightful, funny, encouraging, empowering, practical, and inspiring book. I highly recommend "Successful Classroom Management" to all teachers who want to become better at what they do. My copy is flooded with hundreds of post-it notes, highlighting sentences and paragraphs I want to review every year. I probably would have been better off just putting a giant post-it on the cover."Successful Classroom Management" is well organized, with various topics ranging from dealing with homework to dealing with supervisors, from establishing an engaging classroom culture to establishing good relationships with parents, and from giving praise to giving grades. Heartwarming anecdotes, relevant examples, and spot-on advice make it the perfect handbook for teachers.I'm about to begin my first year teaching, and I truly feel all the more prepared after reading this book.

What I particularly like about the text is that is written very informally ...
I am using this in an introductory course entitled, "Classroom Management in Elementary Education". What I particularly like about the text is that is written very informally with numerous anecdotes that a student new to the field can comprehend. It is NOT theoretically based but I did not want that for the students I am working with. The book is designed to address management issues in elementary grades and high school so for my course, there is some information geared for high school that is not terribly relevant.

Should be required for all new teachers
I am the department head for a high school science department. I buy this book for every first time teacher that comes into our department. It is an easy read, more like a novel than an instructional text. I find myself rereading many sections when I run into issues during the year.

Helpful!
This book is so helpful. I was having difficulty managing my class my first year. I am a really laid back person and that wasn't working for my classroom. As I read this I realized the mistakes I had made in the beginning and how if I changed just a little my year would be so much better. I tried out some of the things in this book and already things are going better!

Great for new and experienced teachers alike
This is a wonderful source of tips and information for both new and experienced teachers. No matter how long we have been teaching, we sometimes find ourselves baffled and exasperated by some of our more "interesting" students. This book does a great job giving tips and strategies for pulling the class (and ourselves) together. It offers reasonable and practical advice, and does so with humor. I'm very glad that I purchased this book and highly recommend it.

Should be required reading!
From the "power of praise" to the thoughtful pairing like-minded students, this book has invigorated my teaching style and left me psyched about my profession.I even got the sniffles (the good kind) on the subway reading it!Here's hoping we can get every educator and policy maker to read it. It's potential to positively affect kids is immeasurable.
