Good product
Bought my house in 2019 & a few months ago our alarm started beeping. I went to replace the 9V & realized there wasn't one. I rotated the old one, took it down, and went looking for a new one. Since it was hard wired I just bought the same one. This one. I read another review saying to activate it, rotate it INTO THE BASE THAT IT CAME WITH. I did that, and then I plugged it into the base already on the ceiling. Took 5 minutes to install!

Installed!
I put off the install expecting issues, but it went fine. The existing screws fit the new bracket. I had to wire in the new plug, but that wasn't difficult. The warning sound is loud. I was surprised that when we tested the second one, the first one went off as well. So if there is an issue in the basement the unit on the first floor "hears" it and gives out a warning. I feel safer. Our previous units were old. I didn't think about replacing them until a neighbor said he had replaced his.

10 years of safety from fires and carbon monoxide
Easy install, good instructions. 10 year life guaranteed. I had one go bad at 5 years and Kiddee sent a replacement at no charge. You do need the third (red) wire between detectors for communication. I didn’t think I needed CO detectors as I’m in an all electric home - until I read about someone dying from parking in the garage and forgetting to shut off the motor before going into the attached house. I like the verbal warning “Fire!” Or “Carbon Monoxide!” And since they are all linked, the whole house is notified. Cheap insurance!

10 yr battery
Hope the 10yr battery is accurate since I hate replacing batteries. Very loud alarm that is tricky to turn off when installing.

Date of Manufacture was more than a year ago - otherwise good buy
I was happy with the price and that the install was uneventful (Other than slipping off the ladder once) after some reviews I read. It's only been 1 hour since I installed so I really can't answer the battery life question and I hope I don't get false alarms in a week or month like others said. THE ONE THING I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED in is the fact that these were manufactured more than a YEAR before I purchased them. In previous conversations with Kidde they told me if my current units were more than 7 or 8 years old it was a good idea to replace them now before the 10 years after manufacture date and before they alerted me they were at their end of life as they could fail. So....these are already a year into expiring based on that even if they are warranted 10 years. The only other issue I had was I was told these would have the same base / mounting plate as the old ones so no extra work changing the base. They were wrong. These new ones are smaller so I had to change every base mounting plate too. I just hope they really last 10 years as promised. SEE PIC. Oh - and these LOCK and you have to find and push a tab to unlock. The instructions say you have to enable this by breaking off a piece but all of mine locked in and I didn't do anything. I tried to take one down to take a pic for this review and found this out when I almost twisted the box out of the ceiling. I checked the others - same thing. 1 REAL GOOD THING. I worked with Cheryl at customer support BEFORE I bought these online and she was AMAZING! She knew her product in and out - gave me good tips - even called to verify I understood - so THANKS Kidde for having such good support! It's rare to find that nowadays. Jim (Via Vicki).

Installed easily.
I just installed 3 of the model i12010SCO. The instructions are lengthy and detailed, but installation was without issue. One thing that might be confusing are the low battery warnings. It can be something other then a weak battery. The warnings can also mean the battery was not activated. A battery becomes activated the first time it is attached to (screwed into) its base, and battery activation is permanent (even if the detector is removed from the base.) If you connect the wire harness and turn on the circuit breaker BEFORE you have activated the batteries you may get low battery warnings. My install summary: With the power off at the circuit breaker, I installed the included new bases and new wiring harness (Do not reuse old wire harness or bases.) I then attached the new detectors to the wiring harness only. I did not attach any unit to its base until right before the last step when I turned the power back on at the circuit breaker and tested the whole system.Since everything tested perfectly for me, they seem very good. I expect them to last for 10 years, but will see. Life of unit is 10 years after activation (date first powered).

Reduces annoying things
It lasts years. I mean come on we all have that annoying short beep we can never figure out where its coming from for a bit then realize the nine volts dead. Then it hamgs open so we remember to get a battery for it that we dont get for months till somebody says...hey you need a batter in that. Then were like right.... So these...years go by with nothing annoying happening and keep you safe. Win win.

Don't try contacting Kidde they won't reply
This was to replace outdated smoke/carbon monoxide detector. New detector is marked replace in 2030 but box it came in says good for 10 years once installed. So what is it 2030 or 2033 if 2033 then a new sticker should come with product to affix to detector indicating new date.Posed this question to Kidde, no reply.
