Good Product So Far
So far I've only used it to rip 2 blu ray disks to my hard drive and it worked flawlessly with MakeMKV. Recent titles. Google how to do it if that's what you're interested in. I wasn't sure it would but it did. They will be huge files so you have to have software to convert them if you want smaller file sizes than 30-50 gbs. It came with Cyberlink Media Suite 10 on disk which is old and I already had the newest version so I didn't need it. Check pricing for a bluray player software before you buy because you will probably need it. There are mixed results with any free software from what I've read. You could try it but I like the Cyberlink software and didn't mind buying it after a free trial. The quality of the movies is better than streaming Vudu HDX in my opinion. Technically it should. I do use a higher definition 27" monitor (2560 X1440) than 1080p. I can't see why it wouldn't look great on a 1080p (since that's blu rays resolution) tv if that's how you roll and know how to get it to play to your tv by casting it or software. I'm sure it can probably be done with PowerDVD as there's an option for it or miracast or something but just haven't done it yet. Btw...your computer won't see the drive unless there is a disk in it and in my case it just worked. No driver install happend when I connected it to my computer. I found that strange but not complaining. I chose overall review scores and read a ton of them to dictate this purchase rather than price (to a point). So far...so good.Pros:It's quiet. It's fast. It will rip a Bluray movie onto a hard drive in the equal time to the movie or in one case it did it quicker. Disc tray feels solid and all around it feels like a well built product.Cons:Only 1 for me really. The USB cord is only 3 ft. You can use a usb extension cable and it works fine if you need longer. Think about if you need one while you're shopping so you don't have to go out and get one due to the length of the usb cable. I just happened to have a 6ft extension cable which worked fine for my situation. Power cord is plenty long. I didn't take a star off for the short usb cord but thought about it.

Works for your MAC with a workaround app!
So far so good. I have a MAC Pro computer and laptop. The Clearlink app/disk does not work with Mac, but there are a couple of work arounds. You just have to search. I searched "Clearlink Bluray alternatives for MacOS". Found several applications. So keep in mind this machine costs more than the purchase price. Eventually, my computer recognized the machine on it's own, but I used an old version of Toast (a small app on the App store) and it worked great. The current Toast App is now a lot more expensive because it does more than burn disks, so I am happy I have the old beta version from a few years back. The enclosed cords work well, the power cord should be longer, but it is adequate. The machine looks like it is all brushed silver, but it is white with a silver front. Heavy duty, and should be considered for office/home only, but that is what I wanted. Takes a long time to burn, but I think it is the same as a DVD burn, as far as time per gigabyte.Overall, great burner that is worth finding the work around on my MAC. I am so excited to be able to condense my photo archives on fewer disks. Big time saver!

LG M-Disc Blu-Ray DVD Writer BE16NU50 Five Star Product
LG M-Disc Blu-Ray DVD Writer BE16NU50This LG Blue-Ray Disc/Extra-Large M-Disc (BDXL) Blue-Ray Writer was tested to help a friend, in panic over the current Solar Flares, Military Electromagnetic Pulse Weapons and WannaCry Ransomware Problems, all which can permanently wipe out your Data, Cell Phones, Computers and most all electronics. The “Carrington Event” on Sept. 1-2, 1859 was the largest geomagnetic storm ever recorded and knocked out America’s Telegraph Systems. According to EMP Scientists, we are unprepared for another, past due, event such as the 1859 Solar Event. In addition, we are not prepared for any EMP Weapon Strike as well and Scientists believe much of the worlds Digital Data and computer controlled systems could be lost, due to a major EMP Event from the sun. This is the main reason M-Disc Technology was developed. The LG M-Disc Writer (BE16NU50) works quite well, however, users should try to understand, the overall success of any M-Disc, or Blue-Ray Extra-Large Writer (BDXL) must have enough Computer Memory, Free Drive Space, up to date CPU, and Software which can recognize the drive and perform the functions to backup or reproduce Digital Data to the special M-Disc Media. M-Disk Media is not distorted by Solar Flares, EMP, Water or Heat Damage and the written data is preserved on M-Disk Media for 50-1,000 years, so they say, where other types of media such as, magnetic types and standard CD’s, DVD’s, Blu-Ray Disc’s, Hard Drives and USB Drives will lose their data after a strong Solar or EMP Event.Without the correct Software, most computers will not recognize the drive because it is designed to Read & Write Extra-Large Blu-Ray Files and Write to a specific type of Disc, which has a very hard surface.Software that comes with the unit is for Windows computers, so with a MacBook Pro, I had to call support to find out what software they recommend for Mac Computers. Two of the recommended software programs worked well. But you have to keep in mind, if the LG M-Disc Writer fails on a Disc, it’s not the Hardware, it’s the software, lack of memory, CPU’s too slow for this type of work, or not enough Free Space on your hard drive. The free software for Mac is called “Burn”, it works well, but it does not have “error correction” and if you unknowingly try to write files with greater than 64 characters, the program will start to write, but as soon as it sees a file name longer than 64 characters it will close the session and give you and error and wasted disc. The second program is ExpressBurn and cost $60.00 and will not let you write to a disc that has errors and will have a popup screen identifying any files, which need to be corrected. The third software, Leawo Blu-Ray Creator for Mac cost $40 as a subscription and $60 to own, but the specifications do not list the software as capable of writing BDXL Files, so it wasn’t tested. An old version of Titanium Toast 12 was tested and worked without issues. Four other try before you buy programs were tested before calling LG and just did not work well writing BDXL Files. So the LG M-Disc Writer is only as good as the software you use. If you have issues with Disc Errors and failed write to disc, look for better software.Overall I give the LG M-Disc Burner BE16NU50 “Five Stars”, it performs well when used with a computer system with enough memory, quality CPU, 50 GB or more empty hard-drive space and quality software, designed for BDXL Files and M-Disc, for archiving Data, Photos, Videos, Music and other Digital Data needed for Long Term Storage and Preservation. The LG M-Disc Burner BE16NU50 is a dependable device, if you experience any problems, please consider your computers CPU, how up to date it is, how much memory you have available to do work, if you only have 4 GB of memory, your computer may be using as much as 2 GB after boot up and any Disc Writing may be very slow or fail, empty hard-drive space is important for preparing files to be written and software will determine the success in writing files without errors. This LG Writer was tested with a MacBook Pro, OSX Sierra, Ver. 10.12.4, Processor 2.9 GHZ Intel Core i7, with 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Memory, at least 75 GB of Free Space was available during tests.Note: To better understand the EMP Dangers of loosing your valuble data, go to the empcommision dot org and read their Executive Report.Good Luck
