De'Longhi Oil Filled Radiator

The oil heater worked very well for 1-2 winter seasons. However the mechanical timer got stuck and the heater would just not operate or turn on after that.OPERATIONStraightforward operation of the thermostat, no frills. There is no digital display so you would not know the temperature on which the thermostat is set. But I did not mind that since the operation was simple and heating was good.TIMERThe 24 hour timer was the feature that I absolutely loved about this heater. The 24 hour dial has multiple teeth which on turning up/down would decide the hours in which the heater would turn on/off. This is a very nifty feature and I used it a lot. Every night this would help automatically turn the heater off when it would get hot enough and then in the morning before we wake up it would turn on. I may have overused it as after a point the teeth stuck and the heater stopped operating. I was very disappointed since I had expected that the timer functionality should have been robust enough to withstand a few years of use. I was almost thinking of giving a 2 star because of this, but since while it worked the timer was a very useful feature I am sticking with 3 stars. Delonghi customer care offered me a discount if I purchase a new one, but I would have really preferred someone fixed the timer for me - could not figure out how to do it myself.HEATINGThe heating though slow initially (as expected from oil heaters) was very effective for the winter season.Hope this is helpful!

Best big oil heat I've EVER had!I have a 300 square foot attic office that is insulated but heated and cooled separate from the rest of the house. However, the temperatures can be extreme hot or cold depending on the season.I've only been using this for about 2 months now since it's only October and in Michigan it's a wave of temperature changes. So I will update this review as we move into the brutal parts of winter.So far my Pros & Cons are:PROS:* The timer...I love the TIMER! It's a 24hr timer with 15 minute incremental settings. Just like the simple lamp timers and as long as you keep this heater plugged in, the timer works - even if you turn the heat setting to 0 (off). I have this set to come on at 4:30am and in a couple of hours my office is feeling pretty good...by noon, it's the warmest part of the house and, really cozy. Sometimes I just have to turn it off.* There are 3 heat setting 1, 2, 3 - Low, Medium, and High. I have not used 3 yet as I would be cooked!* The design is great with the heat vents from the top to disburse heat, This really works well. There is heat that comes out the front, back, sides, and definitely the top.* I like the roller wheels on the bottom that fold under to make a stationary stand. So you have the option to roll it or just sit it.* The cable storage is a nice feature to keep the cable tidy.CONS:* Initial burn-off fumes you get the first time you use it. All space heaters do this, so it's not really a problem, but I thought I would mention it. I would suggest turning it on high for a couple of hours in a ventilated area just to get that smell out and then let it cool and move it where you want it. You shouldn't really get that smell again...maybe just a little but it goes away.OVERALL - I love this heater!UPDATE: 1/14/2015 Mid Winter:I'm giving this thing a few more virtual stars as I love it! This heater is a real powerhouse and the timer makes it perfect. It turns off in the evening and back on at 4:30am and by 6-6:30am it's getting nice and warm in my office. The best part is, I don't have to think about it (1 less thing). I have my dog's bed next to it, and later in the day, you can guarantee he will be belly up, and happy as Larry!

Update: It is now Dec. 2019 and my unit is still working after 14 years. I've noticed one thing - occasionally the timer makes a ticking sound.I thought I'd write a review after over 10 years of usage (purchased in Nov. 2005). I love this space heater and have been using it in my 10 x 15 office during the winter time. Our winters last long so that means about 5 months of every day usage. For those that want instant heat then this isn't for you. This is radiant heat and it takes a good 1/2 hr. to 1 hr. in this size room for it to become effective. Once it does, it's toasty warm and wonderful and sometimes it gets downright hot so I have to turn it down. I've seen a few reviews of customers having oil smells or electrical fires but I've never had this. I also love the price I paid back then for it which was $59.88 plus $15 shipping. I looked at where it was made back then and it says P.R.C. (China) If this unit goes out I'll buy another one.

I love the heater. We are having record-breaking temperatures and this came in very handy. The heat distributes very nicely in a room that has bad circulation from my furnace vents. Operation is very quiet as well.There were some issues with delivery which was beyond the seller's control. Urban Inspirations was on it right away once I notified them that I had not received the product. I was concerned coming from a reseller but their service was timely and polite in our email exchange.

Have always been happy with DeLonghi and was unhappy when our local retail outlet was taken over and the new owners stopped stocking DeLonghi Oil Heaters
