The content is superbly presented and extensive, and is invaluable to English and Chinese speakers. Examples of usage are given for most words and, while not intending to be a grammar book, this feature is particularly helpful.

Excellent tool for English speakers. A bit dated (was edited in 1998), but still an essential in every Mandarin student's personal library.

Well written and easy to use. A great help when learning Mandarin. I found the size of the print and the layout of the pages very user friendly. The English words are written in bold and stand out and are easy to see. The book has a hard cover and a dust jacket to keep it clean. I found it to be better than other similar products that I have used in the past.

This English-Chinese Pinyin Dictionary has larger prints, but has only English-Chinese and not Chinese-English section as in Merriam-Webster's Chinese-English Dictionary has. Besides the Merriam-Webster is cheaper and was delivered in two days.I'd say this English-Chinese Pinyin Dictionary is for Chinese learning English.

The dictionary is one of the best dictionaries for learning chinese PINYIN geared towards Englishmen like me. Of course many modern words are missing, and this dictionary has lots of words that are now not very common, either because those words are too traditional or overly formal. It is 7.5 inches in length, 5.4 inches in width and approximately 2 inches in Thickness with 1726 pages overall. But this is one of the most extensive pinyin dictionary on the market as of now, I hope the newer edition of this book will be thicker, have white (not yellow or cream colored) pages and MOST importantly include many many modern words as well as some slang terms(which are surprisingly avoided! unlike any other dictionary!).
