Amazing page turner
Wow, what a page turner. Just loved this book, sleep was unimportant whilst reading it.My heart went out to Kitty who was orphaned and brought up by her loving aunt Lil and uncle Frank. Kitty goes off to train as a nurse with the RedCross where she meets Michael . There are many obstacles put in their way, will the relationship develop?.I kept delaying getting to the end as I was enjoying it so much.Even better, this is the 1st in a series so we are left with another to look forward to.

Heartwarming
As always, Glynis instantly draws us into her story. I always know I’m going to enjoy her books, right from the first page. We can’t help but like the strong, caring Kitty and we want good things for her. Glynis takes us on Kitty’s journey as a Red Cross nurse and there are plenty of ups and downs. We hope they’ll be happiness on the horizon in the form of handsome doctor, Michael. Their story keeps us turning the pages.

Wartime Tale
I enjoyed this book, but like in so many other books I have read recently, there is far to many modern language terms used in the book and it detracts from the quality of the finished product.

Another great addition to the series
This was ordered for my mother-in-law, who has been reading the other books in this series. She says that they're really interesting and one of the best stories she's recently read. This was a fantastic price on Amazon; cheaper than anywhere else we looked.Whilst I can't comment on the plot, if the author's other books are anything to go by, this will be a fantastic read.

A really good read
I always enjoy anything written by this author and she continues her brilliance.I could picture where it started as I came from near to where the main character lived...but even set anywhere The scenes as well set. Enjoyable read

Could have been better
I quite liked this book but found it without much depth. It was an easy read and it was interesting to learn about the work of the Red Cross nurses during the Second World War. However, Kitty’s relationship with Michael was tedious and a bit Mills and Boon and dominated the story - It was actually a romance rather than a historical novel. Could have been better.

Highly recommend
I read The Forgotten Orphan last year and was delighted to hear that a new series was beginning. The Red Cross Orphans is the story of Kitty – orphaned at the age of four and raised by her aunt and uncle. The storyline starts in autumn 1940, a year after the start of World War 2. Kitty is twenty, has joined the Red Cross as a volunteer nurse and is travelling to Birmingham for further training. Unsure what to expect when she arrives, she finds herself amongst a group of three other volunteers – Trixie, Jo and Belle. As the story unfolds, we learn more about each of the characters with the trio of Kitty, Trixie and Jo becoming firm friends.Birmingham, as with many large towns, was badly damaged by bombings during WW2 and Kitty finds herself part of a team tasked with rescuing those caught up in the damage. It is here that she meets Canadian doctor, Michael McCarthy and the pair strike up a friendship which soon develops into romance. As the war continues we see Kitty and Michael posted to where they are needed the most – often without knowing where the other was.I found this to be a deeply moving story of friendship, heartbreak, love and loss. Kitty is a remarkable character who, despite all that is thrown at her, gets back up, dusts herself off (in some cases quite literally) and gets on with the job in hand. The historical aspect of the story was very interesting, particularly the chapters covering Kitty’s work in Scotland at Drymen Military Hospital. This was a beautifully scripted book, with excellent characters and a gripping storyline. I’m very much looking forward to the next instalment in the series.

Nicely Written
Great wording to give you the fee!ing of being right there. It was inspiring and full of hope. Gave a picture of the horror of war and how blessed we are for the sacrifices that were made by so many

Dramatic and insightful WW2 story
A great thing about reading a lot of WW@ Historical Fiction is gaining perspective. Authors challenge me to think about many things that aren't really taught in school or are just glossed over. The Red Cross Orphans is no different. Glynis Peters shares a story about the challenges of those victimized in Great Britain. She illustrates the struggles of those that dedicated their lives to saving others.I didn't realize there were so many overlapping nursing programs. I didn't realize they were mainly on the job training programs. Nurses were moved around out or necessity. I guess when the need is so great, adjustments must be made. Kitty is one of those nurses. After having a hard life, she is ready to do her bit for her country. Kitty brings the reader along as she adjusts to being away from her aunt and uncle, trains to be a nurse, deals with many situations. It is Kitty's dedication and trust that gives the reader so much knowledge.Kitty seems to fearless as she digs through rubble to find the living. She treats POWs in a hospital, making sure to protect the people of Britain. Her observations shows her to be a valued and dedicated nurse. OF course, like real life, things aren't always easy. The author brings romance into the story creating anticipation and hope for happily ever afters. Just like war, romance is complicated. Not everyone can have a happily ever after. Hearts are broken. Lives are destroyed. But hope does not die, not even for the orphans of WW2.

The Red Cross Orphans: Book 1
Although this is a cliffhanger story, there is a reason for it. So that I can give the actual story an honest review, the World Wars caused so much pain and suffering and it was and is man’s greed driving these wars. This story tells a small part of how ordinary people were joining up to support the British people in the fight against Hitler’s war. A young girl feels that her passion for helping people is leading her towards nursing and she joins the Red Crosse’s nursing program. In her first training station she meets a young Canadian Doctor who she feels a strong connection to. After months of training she is sent to different areas of England to further her nursing education. As I said this is a cliffhanger and should be evaluated as a long continuing story.
