SCHLAGEB81 Single Sided Residential Deadbolt with Thumbturn and Outside Trim Pl, Antique Brass

My previous Schlage deadbolt broke, so I bought this as a replacement. I bought from amazon because I couldn't find the keyless kind in stores. As I tried to install this, I realized it was missing a piece (the tailpiece). I left the deadbolt half-installed (it was non-functional, but at least there wasn't a hole in my door) and emailed Schlage. I waited eagerly for word that they had mailed a replacement piece. Never heard from them. After a few days I called Schlage. I waited on hold for quite a while, then was told that they couldn't send replacement parts and to just return it as defective. (I also think it had the wrong plates in the box, but that was less of a big deal.) So I uninstalled it, returned it, and bought a keyed Schlage deadbolt from HD. Tried to install that deadbolt and discovered that one screwhole was not straight, rendering the whole thing useless. I returned that one and decided three strikes and Schlage was out, so I got a Kwikset.The Kwikset actually worked! It was the exact same price and had some additional features (antimicrobial finish and can be rekeyed). The Schlage did seem slightly easier to install, but of course easier installation counts for zero if the deadbolt is nonfunctional. Bottom line, what should have taken half an hour took several hours (including failed attempts to install defective products, having to uninstall those products, driving to return, driving to buy new products, sending ignored emails, and waiting on hold) because Schlage has no quality control.Can't say I'm over the moon about the Kwikset, but I sure don't plan on buying from Schlage again!

You generally can't find these in the big box hardware stores. It's pointless to have a key on the outside of a door that you would never use as an exit door, and this fits the bill. And although I"m not really worried about someone picking my locks, if there's no key cylinder, it's impossible to pick. For doors that you would never unlock from the outside, it just makes sense to use one of these.Not much else to say; it does what it's supposed to do.

This is a great single sided deadbolt. I have 2 dead bolts and wanted to replace one with one that just locks inside. This did the trick. It comes with a steel (antique brass finish) outer plate. The inside is a regular deadbolt (as pictured) which screws into the outer plate. I installed it in less than 5 minutes.

Did what I needed and easy to install.

I see others have this issue as well. My door is the right size but the screws included are too long. I’m not able to find the right screw model numbers online to order a shorter version either.
