Works Well
Easy to attach. This thing has a square inside shaft and would likely fit multiple battery or gas trimmer heads from other brands. I've had Ryobi and Makita gas trimmers and this looks like it would work (not a guarantee). Cuts well. Used it to edge multiple large beds and along concrete paths. I have 3/4 acre, clay soil, thick grass. Beds around front and side of house, beds along most of the perimeter fencing, maybe 10+ mulch beds around trees, and several walkways. Sorry I don't have pictures, but by way of bed volume, I used 20 cu. yds. of mulch to replenish the beds this season. Have not had any issues cutting through deep, packed clay soil and very thick grass. No heavier than the string trimmer head, so no issues using it for extended periods. 2 or 3 passes at an angle does a good job creating a decent wedge (width and depth) when creating a border to hold back mulch. I find the cut depth to be great out of the box for creating separation and also marking borders for actual digging. I haven't had any issues with the blade dulling and I've hit a reasonable amount of stones and roots. It can rebound a bit - as will most anything - when you do hit a stone or a good size root. I have not experienced any issues with the wheel or the rear flap that some others have mentioned. The only downside I've found is that I can clog it if I use it for prolonged periods in heavy grass or damp clay soil. Not a big deal. Stop and use gloved hand, stick, or whatever to remove debris, then just keep going. No mechanical or other issues so far. Power and run time is a function of your trimmer motor and battery (or engine if gas). I have a DeWalt trimmer head with the flexvolt battery. 2 batteries last several hours of off and on use. This attachment is fine and does exactly what I need. Remember that this is not a shovel, hoe, or pick axe. You'll still need other tools to finish large beds, dig trenches, etc.. Glad I bought it and definitely recommend it.

Dewalt Edger Attachment
I purchased this to add to a Dewalt 60V string trimmer that I had purchased (DCST972) and It works perfectly. It fits my DCST972 unit perfectly, and is easy to swap with the trimmer head. It is also easy to set the blade depth and it seems to have more than enough power to cut a nice edge along the driveway. There was a little dirt build up after the edging was completed due to some rain earlier and moist soil, but it was easily scraped away. I can't speak to the durability of this unit, but if I take care of it it should work fine for a long time.

Amazing attachment for my 60V tool system.
Absolutely perfect. Loved that I could just buy 1 electric tool from Dewalt, a few 60V batteries, and now have multiple tools at my disposal without having to buy a seperate tool handle for every single tool. Great for me since I generally work on my own, not so great for a crew unless you had multiples which may not be worth it economically. 60V 8Ahr works great, though I do recommend a 12Ahr if you have a very large yard (especially if you do plan to do weed whacking too). One warning, althought the 60V batteries are advertised to work on 20V tools, I do not advise to do so as some people have reported their tools no longer working after using a 60V on a 20V tool.

Extra strong guards needed
Edger works great. But plastic guard broke off already

Never buy this attachement.
When it comes time to change the blade, good luck. The nut is tightened down so hard, I broke the cheap plastic and is unuseable. Should have checked the reviews before purchase but had the string trimmer and hedge trimmer attachments I already had. All of those reviews had the same problem....couldn't gert the nut off without breaking it. Everything DeWalt I have ever bought worked great,,,,until this thing. Do not buy it. If you do, the first thing you should do is loosen that bolt, if possible. Terrible product.

quick and tough, but be agressive
I have two long pathways, one in the middle of star grass (Cynodon nlemfuensis) and one in the middle of st. augustine. I've been using it for edging both, recently installed and with bits of cement still stuck to the sides, for over 6 months. The edges are now clear along with a 1/4 perfectly clean gap between the grass and the concrete. To note: I only do this once a month, and both grasses are quite aggressive so they throw runners into the path. The only trick here is to be aggressive as well, and the 972 can definitely handle it. Set it on high and start the tool before plunging, then ride de border. The blades are MEANT to scratch the sides slightly and stay fairly dull, any sharpness would be killed in seconds so don't bother. Run along the edge, THEN reverse at a slightly different angle to widen the gap just a tiny bit, this will also clean your line, especially if the soil has some moisture. Try to use it when the soil is relatively dry, else you'll get some mud and compressed grass stuck in the cover, even more so if you don't do the reverse thing after your first pass. If it does, get a stick or a piece or rebar, though wood would probably be better, and go at it from the back below the cover, cleans up quickly, then continue. The sound and vibration will tell you if there's a clog in there way before the tool stops, so use the warning to clean it up and don't wait for it to "go away on its own"
