Wheels Manufacturing 25.4-31.8 Handlebar Shim, 1 Pair

This product is the perfect item to convert the handlebar set from a mountain bike to a beach cruiser.The Bontrager handlebar set a different thickness at the point where it clamps onto the stem riser.The stem riser accommodates a handlebar 31.8 mm thickness.The handlebars I bought to make the bike into a beach cruiser is 24.6 mm in thickness at the point where it fits into the stem riser.To fit the beach cruiser handlebar onto the Bontrager stem riser I needed a shim set to fill the void and these shims fit that need perfectly.... I was very happy to find these shims on Amazon. Otherwise, I would have had to replace the stem riser myself or find a bike shop to do it for me. Using a bike shop would have run into problems trying to match different specifications to accomodate my beach cruiser handle bar set... these shims saved me TONS of headache and MONEY...

Worked perfectly to fit my Trek System 4 handlebar to a new Ritchie neck. Easy to align. Very solid. The initial package was lost and never received, but Amazon came through and reordered at no cost for me with expedited shipping.

Fits ok for using an aftermarket straight bar in place of drop handlebars on a Specialized cyclocross bike. Most of my riding is off road and the result is way lighter and more maneuvable than a 29-inch mountain bike.It's a little tricky for 1 person to keep the parts aligned during install. I was concerned dirt could get in the gap. But I have the shims lined up so that the gap between the shims is basically the same as the gap as the between the stem and stem clamp.It would be better if the parts had some markings at the ends to help center them. My straight bar like many other handlebars has a geometric pattern, which I once thought was only for appearance but its real purpose is to help center the bar during installation. So the bar is centered to the Wheels Manufacturing shims now, but the spacers have no marks. Installing it by eyeball only, it looks the whole thing is probably 2-3 mm off center. I might have to tweak it again if the difference turns out to have any noticeable effect on steering in different riding situations. Preferably I'll have a helper if and when I do the tweak. There is also some compound that comes in a tube, not glue exactly but for holding stuff in place, that would work - didn't want to put any more money into it though, would sooner spend the money on tools.

I thought that I would have difficulty installing these shims, because I thought that I would have a difficult time trying to keep them in place while connect my handlebars to my stem, but to my surprise when I put them on my handlebars to properly line them up, they actually stuck to my handlebars, like there was glue. There is no glue or tape, not sure how they were able to makes these so they stick while you install, but I appreciate that.

This product fits like a glove. However, there is a couple of problems. 1) not easily installed. Hard to keep the two shims, handlebars, and handlebar clamps lined up. 2) I could not get the handlebar from moving from heavy torque. It works great for street riding. However, I wouldn't use it for any major offroading.

This is my second set of shims, the first ones were too thin, I have another set on the way that are still taking forever so I ordered these and received them very quickly. They are high quality with tapered tops and the size marked on them in while lettering. Says high quality and attention to detail to me. So these worked very well. Bars are as stiff as a drum!

The trick to installing these easily is to loosely assemble your bars with the shims inside. While everything is still movable with fingertip pressure, align the bars and the shims as desired, slowly tightening the stem bolts (non self-sealing!) so things are progressively more fixed but still mobile enough to tweak. Spend 5 minutes doing this or 15 trying to just bolt it all together as if the shims aren't there.

I tried to use these to mount some 31.8 mm clamp-on aero bars on a 25.4 mm handlebar. No amount of tightening would keep the aero bars from twisting.
