easy set up and just set it and forget it
The Kasa Outdoor Smart Plug is an absolute game-changer for anyone looking to simplify their outdoor setup. With its Wi-Fi connectivity, 15A/1875W max load capacity, and smart timer features, it’s perfect for managing holiday lights, garden equipment, or any outdoor electronics. What I love most is how easy it is to control remotely through the Kasa app or voice assistants like Alexa and Google Assistant. Going out of town? No problem! You can schedule timers or turn devices on/off from anywhere, giving you peace of mind and saving energy. The setup is quick, and the dual outlets are super convenient for multiple devices. The build feels durable and weather-resistant, so it’s great for year-round use. If you want a reliable, smart outdoor plug that makes life easier especially when traveling this is the one to get.

Good product, but the plug prevents using two in one outlet, so you may need an extension
I own a number of Kasa products (like bulbs and smart plugs) and they've worked out well for me. They've been a great value, for some very useful applications. This Kasa Outdoor Plug is also working very well. It's easy to use on my network and with the app. My only small issue with the product is the rigid 90 degree plug, which prevents two Smart Plugs from easily being used in one outlet. (For example, for two different strings of lights that you want to time differently, like Christmas lights and patio lights.) The 90 degree plug is probably fine if you're using just one, or need it to fit behind a cabinet or something. But as this is a 3-prong outlet, both plugs would need to be oriented the same way in the outlet, and that's not possible. So I need to add another short extension to use both Smart Plugs. A plug that came straight out from the outlet would avoid that. (I'm a huge fan of 90 degree plug designs for indoor use, it is so often helpful.) Anyway, if you're planning to put two in one outlet, plan ahead and get a short extension as well. I like that this is designed to go up to 15 amps. Though I doubt I'll ever use it for high-wattage loads, it's a good safety measure, in case someone who doesn't know plugs something into this Smart Plug. Having good wi-fi network coverage surely helps, though with the small amount of data infrequently transmitted they work well over reasonably long distances. I make a point of attaching all smart devices to the guest network for security reasons.

Automated landscape lighting
This worked perfectly!! Very easy to setup. Plugged an older mechanical timer box/transformer into this to automate my low voltage landscape lighting. I did the initial setup inside to get it connected to WiFi and my Alexa system, then plugged it in outdoors. No connectivity issues. Works great and now I can control my landscape lighting from my phone!

Quality build!
I have over 50 smart devices in my home. The Kasa outdoor smart plug is my first Kasa smart product. I am very impressed with the high quality of the plug. Flawless install and works perfectly. Price is 1/3 of what I have been paying.

Kasa Good
Product: Kasa / TP-Link Outdoor Smart Plug, single outlet, model KP401 Gist: overall I like it and would get it again although I'd actually get the one with 2 plugs instead Good: Kasa Smart app works good, the Kasa/TP-Link products are good quality and good function with the Kasa App or the Alexa App and Echo devices, actual setup of the plug was very simple and easy - just select it in the Kasa app and then go into Alexa and it already has it ready to go without even doing anything. Not so good: you have to have the Kasa Smart App on your phone, you need a username and password, the unit is not waterproof - it is weather proof - that means no direct water contact I'm pretty sure. It is designed to be plugged into the outlet and for the unit to hang down by the cord about 7 inches with the actual socket facing the bottom. That way rain will not enter, just run off the sides. Just keep that in mind when determining if this style plug will fit into your scenario. Details: My first smart plug was a Kasa/TP-Link product that I purchased off Amazon in 2017 and in 2024 it is still operating perfectly with Alexa/Echo so I expect this item will also last a few years. Since I already had a Kasa account setup in 2017 all I had to do was login and add this new device. Well, I haven't accessed that account since 2017 and haven't had the Kasa app on my phones since then either. I've just been using the Echo devices to control my Kasa devices ever since initial setup years ago. So here is the process for me to setup this device: First: Like most smart devices you need the 2.4 GHZ band of your internet router to be active along with the 5 GHZ all the time. 1. download the Kasa Smart App onto my phone (I ditched Apple so I use the Android version now) 2. open the Kasa App - it will want a login before anything else can be done. If you have an existing account and don't know your username or password then just click recover option and it will send a link to your email it has on file. Use the link to reset the password. I actually had my password written down but I think since its been years since I logged in it was disabled and that's why I had to do the reset. 3. After you login to the app, just click the plus sign for add device and scroll through the types to select your Outdoor Plug and then the KP401. 4. Assign a group or routine in the Kasa App if you want 5. Once you're done with the Kasa app if you go into the Alexa app it should be already setup and ready to use. I didn't give it 5 stars because everything can always be better and I think the amount of cord this hangs by should be shorter. For some reason they didn't think so. It works well but looks a little clunky in my patio scenario.

Works great
I bought this at first because it was a smart outdoor plug and it was 8$. I tell ya what this works great. The Kasa app works great and is easy to use. Worked so good I bought a second one. The first one I use as a timer for my heat pump for my pool. The second one I use for a pool filter timer. Only thing I didnt like was the 2nd one was like 13$ insted of 8. But still worth it.

Kasa Outdoor Mini Plug works perfectly controlling my patio lights!
I’m loving this plug so far, I have it outside connected to a string of little lights on my patio and it’s working good! It’s a replacement for the first one I ordered that I couldn’t get to complete setup. I tried many times over 2 days and chatted with Kasa support before deciding it was defective and returned it for a replacement, which came fast and setup worked fine. I have multiple Kasa mini plugs already and have been very happy with them. I can control the new outdoor plug, and all my mini plugs, on my phone in my Alexa app (or the Kasa app) all easy enough, and by voice with Alexa devices. It’s so much easier than having to go out and reach behind chairs to plug in and out my lights. I’d almost just bought a timer to connect the lights to before wondering if Kasa had a plug meant for outdoors and I’m so glad I did, and it works great! Thank you Kasa and Amazon for the fast and easy response and replacement of the first one!

Works just as well as products that cost more
Tired of having to adjust timers based on sun up/sun down, daylight savings time, or sensors that just don't seem to work all that well? It is time to give up the old way of connecting outdoor lights and using something better, and this is that something. Sure there are other brands out there that cost considerably more, but they don't do anything more than this does. And while you can find "timers" that cost less, they do far less and are far less reliable. The pairing process is braindead simple and doesn't require a separate hub. From there it is one simple step to add it to Alexa or Google Home. You can then do things like set them to go on at "sunset" and just forget about it, no need to adjust for DST or changing daylight hours. Of course, if you do want to override it for some reason, you can simply tell Alexa (or Google) to just turn it on. Or if you don't happen to have your phone on you, or aren't near your assistant, there is a button to tap to turn it on. The casing is solid and well made, durable and feels substantial, and has survived through summer and winter weather and continued to work without issue. Stop messing with inferior product, and certainly don't overpay when you don't need to do so, this Kasa version is everything you need. I have both the single outlet and double outlet (which gives each outlet a separate id so they can be turned on or off individually if you so choose), and both are superior products and well worth the price asked for them.

-30 and still work perfectly
I've had the Kasa Smart Outdoor Smart Plug by TP-Link for almost two years now, and it's nothing short of exceptional. Even in extreme conditions with temperatures as low as -30 degrees, it continues to work flawlessly. This smart plug has been a game-changer for my outdoor appliances and lighting. The setup was a breeze, thanks to TP-Link's user-friendly app, which also offers convenient scheduling and remote control options. It has allowed me to automate my outdoor lighting and decorations effortlessly. What truly sets this smart plug apart is its durability. With temperatures plummeting to -30 degrees, I had concerns about whether it would withstand the harsh winter weather. To my pleasant surprise, it has not skipped a beat. Rain, snow, or freezing cold, it keeps on working without a hitch.

Does the job
I installed this to run a fan under my deck for ventilation. It was easy to set up with the Kasa app, and I was able to make a schedule to turn the fan on and off twice a day throughout the summer. I intend to also use it to run holiday lighting. Mine hasn't been explosed to a lot of weather, but it should be fine. It hangs down from outlet so should shed water. Probably better to install anything like this in a protected spot if possible. The only problem I had (and it might just be me) is I haven't been able to integrate it into Google Home yet, but honestly I didn't spend a lot of time on it since it worked fine with the other app. I still give it 5 stars, but will revisit this if I find out it's not compatible.

Great for my deck lights
Bought this to control my new deck string-lights. The first pairing failed, but that was probably my fault. It's been working flawlessly for the week that I've had it. I've located the smart plug underneath my eves, so it's partially out of the rain/weather.
