Ugly Stik Bigwater Spinning Fishing Rod

Quality fishing road for daily use. It takes the beating. Nicely finished. I managed to cast long distances.

Well, I'm new to the Beach Fishing arena so I decided to go big or go home :) I bought a 15 footer and that is just sooo big I decided to go a litter shorter and do multiple 12's. I gotta say, Shakespeare does it RIGHT. All 3 of these Stiks are awesome! They are strong but still have relative sensitivity. They come apart into 2 pieces so I can still manage to get them in my car trunk with the back seat folded down. The quality is there just like my other shorter ugly sticks. Can't say enough good things about ALL of the Ugly Sticks, from my 7 & 8 footers to these 12 footers to the 15 footer. I'm Happy.

I paired this rod with a Daiwa 8000 series reel and I’ve used it for both beach fishing off New Smyrna Beach and for fishing the various reefs about 5-20 miles off of Ponce Inlet. This rod is perfect for chucking a big ol’ 6oz Sputnik sinker and cut bait off of the beach and makes easy work for fish up to and including 3-4’ish bull sharks. As for fishing the reefs the length of this rod does pose issues on a boat, but this rod isn’t meant to be used on a boat. Nevertheless, I did hook a 75 pound grouper on this combo and although this rod bent over like a wet noodle I can say that I was impressed that it didn’t break. Anyway I hope this review was helpful and I give the rod 2 thumbs up!

Nice pole

Had These for a few weeks now. Had a chance to put them through the wringer. Pros: -Excellent value: I paid over $100 for a comparable Penn rod that in my opinion is not better. -Rod is sturdy. I wing 6oz Sputnik sinkers with whole finger mullet, rod handles it no problem. -great casting distance with 7500lc Penn. -tip is sensitive enough to see light bites, but rod is sturdy enough to battle huge fish. I have a 12’ Penn rod that is too stiff, which often causes me to miss light bites or reel in whiting I have had hooked forever and are dead when I reel in to check baits, never knowing they are there. The uglystick does not suffer this flaw. Cons: -only real complaint I have is the distance between grips on the pole. The distance is great if you want to wing a bait as far as you can without much concern of accuracy. However, when you are trying to do a more controlled cast, it’s too much distance between the grips. In addition, since there is polished blank Between the grips, choking up isn’t an option. When the blank is wet, it’s like trying to hold onto a wet fish if you try to choke up. You can feel your hand struggle to stay on the pole and control is impossible. Aesthetically pleasing as this look is, running the grip the whole length would alleviate this issue. -grip is slightly too fat for rod holders in my cart. Pulls the rubber rings off the top. Small potatoes, though.

Omg... I bought, years ago, a box store combo, for surf fishing. They worked so so. I used them for years, never really caught anything big. FINALLY broke down and got a surf rod. Matched it with the reel of my choice. First cast and I'm hooked. You can REALLY sling a 4oz sinker WAY out there. 5 minutes in and I'm reeling in a 3' fine tooth shark. Lemme just say, my old setup would have never been able to do that. Holy crap. Little suckers put up a good fight. I'm saving up for a another pole, just like this 1. Well worth the money. Light and long. I would recommend using a pole stake. You ain't holding this thing all day long. Trust me, I had a 8 foot pole, went to a 12. Yippee, gotta have another 1.

I ordered the 12ft length for surf fishing. I've used it a few times now and am generally happy with it for that purpose. The length is great for keeping the line above the breakers and the length really helps with cast distance. If you're going after bigger fish (stripers, big blues, etc) it's a really good choice. But one drawback is that it is a heavy action rod and you trade off feel. With a 4 oz or greater weight, it can be tough at times to know if you even have something smaller on th line like a spot/croaker/dogfish. I reeled in several times surprised that I had something on the line. That said, when something bigger or more fight hits like a bluefish, the tip flex is a pretty good tell. Might take more getting used to but overall I'm happy with it.

All I can say is it's an Ugly Stick on steroids. Have this paired with a Shimano D1200 bait runner spinning reel and it rocks for Surf fishing. Easily handles anything you can throw at it. Wouldn't want to hold this thing all day due to length and weight but for for live bait casting on the beach it works amazing. Allows me to chuck my line out a good distance for an opportunity at the big ones. This is my 3rd Ugly Stick (2 GX2 rods) and I'm sold on the overall quality and price of these bad boys.

Quantity, durable rod for a reasonable price.

The Big Water rod is very well made and will be using it on the beeches of California this Jan.
