Q: I have a hp elitebook 840 with dual monitors. will I be able to use this docking station with both monitors and laptop?

If you are using 2 monitors with Your HP EliteBook 840 that means that you are using 1 VGA and 1 Display port connections. As you can see on pictures or in specifications sheet of product on HP website this Dock has bot Display Port and VGA ports. So Answer is YES. Even more - you can hook up 3rd external monitor using USB to VGA adapters (in this case built in monitor will not work while 3rd external monitor is plugged in).

Q: Does it work well with a dual monitor set up? I've heard the image quality is not so great.

I find no quality difference between the two monitor setup, both monitors exhibit very good visual quality.

Q: Is it compatible with the HP Folio 9480m? - HP doesnt seem to know or sell it any more.

We actually purchased these for use with the 9480M and they work seamlessly. Dual monitors possible with display port on one and vga on the other. The newer model has two display ports but we have not have any success getting them to work. I have spoken to the HP rep at our office about this. Also works with the Elitebook 840 G1 model. Hope this helps.
