Q: Should we use tape with it or not?

Yes you should use tape. I actually bought it to add texture to a wall but I live with someone who does construction for a living and he said yes, otherwise it can crack where the joints are.

You could do it with this, but it’s a tough job and you’ll probably need to do it several times, but the finish is almost never perfect. I’m a construction owner/contractor and I won’t do this. This us a great product for taping, muddling, leveling as intended. In respect of your texture finish, you might try sanding down a section and assessing how easy (or not) - if it works for you, consider buying a rotary drywall sander that has a dust extractor fitted. If not, rent a commercial cleaner for after the job!!
