Not meant for fabrics, but can work for them.
I have had this for four months now and I have something to say.First, I read through the other reviews. Some of the negative ones were ignorant. VERY ignorant. The instructions I got with mine as well as the listing are clear that this is not meant for fabrics. People saying, "Wow, this doesn't work at all for fabrics," are right... but it was not advertised for those things. Can it work for them? Yep, but you need to punch a hole first. What this does work fantastic for is plastics and paper. I first used it to put a grommet in the bag the tool came in. That gave me the idea to use it on ZipLoc bags and hang them on pegboard for sorting things. Works great. What you might want to use these most for is tarps. You can make your own or repair ones you already have. You can use different materials if you want. You can make specially shaped tarps for grills, outdoor furniture, tractors, mowers, etc. I made a perfect-sized tarp to go over a generator I keep in the garage. Keeps the dust and bugs off of it.In my pictures, you can see that the tool is VERY well built and sturdy. I had no trouble using it. If you plan on using string, twine, or small hooks, get the 6mm grommets. I got the one for 10mm as that's more appropriate for parachute cord and bungee cords. Enjoy!

Great
It puts holes in things and does a good job of it.

Misaligned and does not completely close
These are definitely sturdy, and I love the magnetic option...saves a ton of effort trying to get the right angle, however....they are misaligned like what others have indicated here. Through very thin material it only cuts part of the circle, and the entire grommet doesn't evenly crimp. I have to rotate the tool to try to get a more even crimp, but it doesn't seem to improve the situation. Not only am I left to cut out the rest of the material myself, but some of the grommets don't hold so well due to the misaligned crimping. with all the allen screws it would seem there's a way to adjust this, but I can't seem to figure it out. Would love to be able to swop heads to do different size grommets too, but can't seem to find other sizes.

A great tool
I needed to put grommets in several dozen small banners. I wasn't looking forward to doing it the hard way, using a hammer and punch. This all in one tool cuts the hole and attaches the grommet in one motion. It made the job so much easier. The included grommets were an added bonus.

Good bang for the buck..but needs more crimping pressure.
Good bang for the buck. Looks ok, comes with plenty of gromets. BUT.... after installing 4 gromets, all 4 have come apart???????? It seems like there is not enough tool pressure when putting the 2 gromet pieces together???? I am waiting on a response from the seller on if there is a way to increase the crimping pressure or is this just junk and will never work correctly????????????

Great for putting grommets in tarps!
I bought some tarps that had too much spacing between grommets. This tool was the answer! Holds the two pieces of grommet magnetically, and even punches the hole all in one step. I've done about 30 grommets with it so far, and no signs of fatigu. Last grommet I did was just as good as the first.

Surprisingly easy on the hands
I'd bought a cheapo you hammer on with 200 grommets. It lasted 25. I broke down and bought this..... The grommets from the chepo works very well with it ! Yay !It seems to me the index finger Handel should be on the other side though.. i hold it upside down i guess. I'm liking it. I've done close to 100 with it. (Had to replace 30+ the chepo messed up.)

I use it for signage
I use it for coroplast (corrugated plastic) signage so I can hang them off of construction fence, and it works very well for that. Better than expected, actually. I also use it for laminated paper signs and it works only okay... it doesn't always completely poke the hole... but it does the trick.Pretty easy to use...doesn't take much strength. Be careful how you load it. Also, when you take one of the small rings, drop it from an inch or so onto your table first. Pretty good chance there will be more than one stuck together.Good tool so far. Feels like quality, but that can be deceiving. Have to see how long it lasts in use.The grommets are chromed steel, not brass, so there may be some rusting as reported, but I haven't seen it on the ones I have outside yet.

Works very well!
Easily able to penetrate 4 layers of light tarp material and forms a nice tight joint. Lever-action gives the mechanical advantage that makes it easy to use with little fatigue. The grommets that come with the unit work well to cut out the material in the grommet hole most of the time. Construction looks and feels solid.

Works sometimes
Works well on very thin material but not that great on thicker materials.
