ThiEYE WiFi Sport Camera

I've bought several action cameras over the years. My favorites are made by ReplayXD, but I recently bought a gimbal so I can shoot more stable video, and it requires a GP-size and weight camera to set the right balance for the gimbal to keep the camera level. After reading specs and reviews of lots of different cameras, I settled on this one.I'm most impressed by the number of resolutions that can be recorded, and many of them have a 4:3 aspect ratio. Even though my final video will be 16:9, I prefer to shoot in 4:3 so that I can crop it to what I want during the editing process. I use the camera to record my mountain bike and motorbike rides and the camera may not be aimed properly, depending if I want to show more of the trail (down) or trees and mountains around me (up). I can fix that by trimming off the appropriate amount of the top or bottom of the 4:3 scene. Also, I can chose a higher resolution like 2.7K, 2.9K or even 4K if I think I might want to trim off the sides to get rid of some fisheye distortion that is always part of a superwide angle of view that these types of camera generally have.All the exposure parameters can be configured in the menu system which is quite easy to go through, thanks to the up and down buttons on the side of the camera. For someone not so familiar with cameras, these settings could be confusing. It would help if a full manual were available to explain all the features.The built-in image stabilization only works at 1080p and lower resolutions. I haven't tested it yet to see if it would remove the shake and/or vibration when I'm mountain biking.The image looks really good and is well exposed. Even when the sun is in the field of view, the exposure is decent, much better than I would have expected (I can lighten it up a bit during editing when needed).The camera will record at the same time as getting power through it's micro-USB port. That means I can power it from my gimbal and not have to change batteries every hour or so. The batteries last longer than an hour, but you need to change them before they go dead in the middle of a clip of a great ride.The screen on the back looks great and there are enough LEDs to let you know what the camera's doing. I hope they'll be a little brighter in the next version so they're easier to see in the bright Southern California sun. Also, I hope an external battery charger becomes available so I can recharge more than one battery at a time in the camera.Edit: I recently completed a rafting trip through the Grand Canyon. I filmed it at the 2.7K setting since that gave a wider field of view than 2.9K and I wanted to capture as much of the canyon walls above us as well as the river and rapids as possible. The results were excellent! The video was very crisp and showed no signs of compression artifacts, even though I recorded at the highest compression setting. The exposure was perfect. I'm really impressed that sounds of the river and conversation were clearly picked up through the waterproof housing.

Frankly, The ThiEYE T5e may have once been a great compromise camera when the price differential for a GoPro was several hundred dollars, but today, the GoPro Hero5 Black is only about $50 more. What you get for that $50 is a camera that is waterproof right out of the box, a WiFi connection that is stable and intuitive, an App that works and offers complete control of the camera as well as manipulating media even to backup in the cloud and the best image stabilization in the industry.The ThiEYE T5e is simply very buggy. Even though the company released new firmware over 7 months ago, the camera I received had the old firmware and I had to manually flash it. The WiFi setup is dodgy and you have to fumble through reboots and on/offs to get it to connect and even when it does, it frequently drops out. The image stabilization is good for a Chinese knock-off, but frankly pales in comparison to a GoPro Hero5 Black. If you are after the cheapest price, buy the T5e, but if you want quality you can rely on with great image/video capture from action shots, do yourself a favor and spend the extra $50 on GoPro.

Only used a couple times, but my first impressions about the camera are very positive. Great color, dynamic range, and clarity from the image sensor. I have not yet used the camera in the waterproof housing for any extended period so I cannot speak for heat buildup/dissipation for the camera. I have not yet used the camera long enough to verify battery life, but other reviews and product specs lead me to believe battery life is impressive for recording at 4k. I like that this camera has a quarter inch threaded mount for use of a tripod in case. Do the firmware update as soon as you get the camera, because power cycling the camera with original firmware reverts all settings to oem original settings.One quark is, as others have mentioned in forums, the 2.5mm audio input on the camera is mounted flush to the inside of the camera body where it should be mounted flush to the outside of the camera body. As a result, a 2.5mm trs plug does not plug in with enough depth to reach the contacts. Some users resolve this by routing out the camera body around the plug with a drill bit. I didn't want to deface the camera so I modified a $6 2.5mm male trs to 3.5mm female trs adapter with a file. I wrapped tape around the contacts of the 2.5mm trs contacts, held paper to the side of the file facing the tape to protect the tape barrier to the contacts, and filed down parallel to the trs shaft for more depth of the plug. I tested and verified the adapter worked consistently using a lavalier mic. The camera preamp is a bit noisy for an external mic, but the internal mics are decent quality as far as action cameras are concerned. I would recommend using the internal mics for action cam type footage. For any other type of footage where you want to use external sound hardware like a lav mic, I recommend using a standalone digital recorder like anything in the Zoom Handy Recorder lineup and sync audio files to video files in post production. I'm still happy to have the external mic input if I need it in a pinch given many action camera don't have an external mic option.Another quark is the micro sd does not click in and click to spring out. It can be tricky to get the micro sd out once it's in and flush to the slot. I cut a piece of scotch tape narrow and folded over an edge to grab and stuck the tape to the brand label side of micro sd. The tape extends out and provides easy access to remove the micro sd.This camera fits with the "HolaFoto Plate for Gopro" if you want an adapter plate to use it with the "Zhiyun Smooth Q Gimble" for semi-professional smooth video footage. The gimbal arm appears in the footage, but I circumvent this by mounting the Thieye T5e in the gimbal adapter plate spun 180 degrees around keeping the screen/lens on the same axis and mounting the adapter plate flipped over so the camera is right side up again. At this point the camera will face the user, but using "selfie mode" on the gimble will flip the camera to point out towards other subjects.Footage may stutter on some computers on playback due to the hardware strain to render 4k video. I checked my footage on a better pc and verified the file as recorded by the camera has no problems. Overall, the Thieye T5e is a great action camera, especially as this price point. Although it took me a bit of thinking to work around any quarks of the camera I mentioned, they are simple fixes that pretty much resolve the issue completely. I would definitely recommend the Thieye T5e to anyone looking for high quality footage from an action camera.

Eine gute Einsteiger Action Cam.Für User die auf Features wie Sprachbefehle und GPS Koordinaten verzichten können.Testzeitraum erst ein paar Tage, somit keine Langzeitaussage möglich.Verhalten der Kamera bei Kälte, Hitze oder mit dem Unterwassergehäuse wurde noch nicht getestet.Positiv- Es ist keine Anmeldung oder Registrierung notwendig (für mich ein großes Kaufargument).- Die Bildqualität ist bei hellem Tageslicht super (nur HD getestet), Bei Dunkelheit nimmt das Bildrauschen zu.- Features wie Zeitlupe, Zeitraffer arbeiten einwandfrei.- Filme und Bilder lassen sich gängigen Tools auf den PC einfach bearbeiten.- Verarbeitung ist Ok- Das Preis Leistungsverhältnis stimmt.- 4 K bis 30 fps 720p bis 240 fps- Entgegen anderen Rezensionen habe ich keine Probleme mit der WALN Verbindung zum Handy (HUAWEI P9 lite)Negativ- Es fehlt eine Software um die T5e vom PC aus über WLAN oder Bluetooth steuern zu können oder Bilddaten direkt auf den PC zu übertragen.- Die Kamera wird auf der Displayseite recht warm- in der Handy APP fehlt bei den Filmen eine Vorschau, was man zum Handy übertragen will. Ich sehe immer nur eine ThiEYE Logo je Film.- Das Manual ist in Deutsch aber nur mit den wichtigsten Infos versehen. Die einzelnen Funktionen müssen selbst ausprobiert werden, was aber recht intuitiv geht.- Kein Touchscreen (aber eine einfache Tasten-Menüführuing die dann auch Unterwasser funktioniert)

Tras probarla este fin de semana con los amigos y la familia en la piscina, decir que tiene muy buena calidad de imagen, la carcasa para uso en agua cumple a la perfección permitiendo el manejo de la cámara sin temor a que sufra daños por el agua.El que venga con dos baterías si eres previsor y las tienes bien cargadas te permitirá una duración de las grabaciones idóneas.Compramos también una tarjeta de 64 gb y tiene capacidad suficiente para grabar varias horas (dependiendo de la resolución con la que grabes).A destacar también la facilidad de conexión con el programa de gestión desde el móvil, ademas es muy útil su uso puesto que cuando te la pones en la cabeza o usas algún accesorio donde no tienes acceso visual a la pantalla te sirve para poder enfocar.De momento muy contenta con la compra.

Well worth doing my research for a good action camera at an affordable price. My ThiEye T5e camera arrived nicely package and intact. The camera came in a nice presentation box with a premium quality. The same I can say about this affordable camera. It certainly took me by suprise how well built this unit was. A good quality product indeed. I have had a few days to try out my camera and wow...! How do they produce a unit giving such good quality video and photo's! at such an affordable price is beyond me. This camera comes with 2 batteries, a protective transparent shock and water resistant case, charging lead, a bracket with adhesive pads for mounting on various objects, ie. Helmet, car dash board etc. Cleaning cloth. The unit does not come with a Micro SD card which is understandable in keeping the cost down.The bonus with this camera is a viewing and menu screen as well as the addition of control and viewing using your smart phone. I won't go into all the details, but the menu is quite intensive with loads of settings. Picture quality can be recorded in true 4K quality unlike some cheaper models which only upgrades them to 4K. To summerise, this camera comes pretty close to the Go Pro's of this world. Even the many Go Pro accessories will fit this camera. If you want stunning 4K video or photo action then this is a camera not to miss. I Highly recommend.

Ich habe die Action Cam nach langer Suche im Internet als Geschenk für den Urlaub gekauft. Meine Freundin war zum Großteil auch sehr begeistert. Ich muss sagen ich kenn mich nicht so gut aus, aber ich versuche alles zu berücksichtigen.Vorab zum Versand, die Kamera war innerhalb von paar Tagen da, Top !Zum Rest habe ich eine Pro- und Kontra-Liste nach der Benutzung in einem 10- Tagesurlaub auf dem Fahrrad, an Land, auf dem Schiff, im Pool und im Meer erstellt:Pro:+ die Verarbeitung wirkt wertig und sehr stabil (hat auch etwas Gewicht)+ die Bild- und Videoqualität in 4k/30p sowie in FHD/60p und 30p ist sehr gut am 4k-Fernseher (sonst nur FHD/120p benutzt s. unten)+ das Unterwassergehäuse ist stabil und ist wasserdicht (bis 2 Meter getestet)+ Umfangreiche Auswahl an Aufnahmemodi (u.a. Zeitraffermodus ist genial)+ kompatibel mit den meisten Zubehörsets (nur 2 getestet aber scheinen alle ähnlich bis gleich verarbeitet zu sein)+ zweiter Akku im Lieferumfang+ gute Akkuabdeckung mit "lock"-Schalter+ Display bei Aufnahmen+ externer Mikrofonanschluss (nicht benutzt)+ Bedienung relativ einfach+ einfaches Rüberladen der Aufnahmen aufs Handy via AppKontra:- Akkulaufzeit leider nicht so lang bei städigem Aufnehmen- FHD/120p-Aufnahmen müssen erst konvertiert werden vor dem Anschauen und rauschen im Bild- Kein Ladegerät im Lieferumfang- Micro-SD-Slot ungeschützt- keine richtige Anleitung für alle Einstellmöglichkeiten zudem in gebrochenem Deutsch- nicht mit allen Micro-SD-Karten kompatibel (Aufnahmen stoppen von selbst)- Unterwassergehäuse beschlägt im Wasser (ist aber auch bei der GoPro von Freunden so)- internes Mikrofon im Gehäuse sehr leiseFazit: Trotz mehrerer Negativaspekte haben wir uns beide dafür entschieden die Kamera zu behalten, denn der Hauptaspekt, Ansprüche in Bild- und Videoqualität, wurde auf jeden Fall erfüllt.
