They Shrink, but Otherwise Nicer Than I Expected.
I hesitated to buy these DII Cotton Ribbed Placemats due to mixed reviews and the uneven quality of inexpensive Indian textiles. But I was desperate for dark brown placemats that are washable and thick enough to protect my table from heat. These are casual placemats of passable quality, but they look good and get the job done. The Dark Brown color goes well with my dark walnut-stained table. The placemats are 13 inches wide and 19.5 inches in length to start. They are about 3mm thick. Instructions say to machine wash in cold water and tumble dry on low. I washed in cold water and hung to dry. The placemats shrank in length by about 1.25 inches. They don't shrink in width. They are now 13 x 18.25 inches in size.I didn't expect perfection from casual, inexpensive placemats. One of the loops on the long edge of one placemat was frayed when I got it. I trimmed it a bit with scissors so it looked better. The loops acquire a little fuzz when laundered, though. So far, it has not been enough to bother me. The placemats don't wrinkle badly when washed and line-dried, but they do get some wrinkles. Whether you need to iron them will depend on how sensitive you are to wrinkles. I used spot spray when I laundered them, and it had no ill effect on the dye. The Dark Brown is a nice, rich chocolate. The thread matches the fabric well. The color selection is impressive. These placemats have been a good value for the cost; I’m pleased with the purchase. Made in India.

Very sturdy, perfect for messy kids.UPDATE.
UPDATE 2021: We've been using these for over 2 years now. We bought another set in black, and have been switching them out whenever the others are in the wash. They do stop bleeding In the washer eventually, so we just throw them in with the everyday laundry. They have not started unraveling or falling apart at all. Which is amazing since we are not easy on these whatsoever. They've gone from just being place mats to being used for anything and everything; under dog food and water, under the coffee pot, used to set hot pans on, for wet dishes as a drying mat, under coloring books for painting, you name it and They've been used for it. The colors have faded, but I expected nothing less from constant abuse over the years. All in all these are great and last forever.ORIGINAL 2019: We absolutely love these. We're a family of 6 with 4 messy kids, and we use these every day for every meal. They are very sturdy. Nice and thick, not flimsy at all. They get washed every couple of days, and so far no unraveling. They did shrink a little after the initial wash, but they're 100% cotton. Cotton will ALWAYS shrink in the wash. There's nothing you can do about that. And anyone that gets mad about it is just ignorant, and should buy polyester place mats instead because polyester does not shrink. I put these in the washer with cold water, and lay them flat on the table to dry so I dont have to iron them. But even in cold water, do not wash these with anything else, unless you dont mind the color bleed to the rest of your laundry. They bleed like crazy. Another thing, is these placemats may not be strictly for special occasions or parties if thats what you're buying them for, they are not perfectly rectangle. Some are better than others, some look like they were made at a bit of an angle. For my family, we think it adds a bit of character, and don't mind it at all. In fact we're saving up for another set in a different color for some variety during holidays, but if you're picky about presentation, they may not be for you.

Dye Bleeds and Placemat Shrinks
Thank you for the other reviews that warned me about the dye bleeding. I bought these Wine placemats because I had been unable to fine a dark red washable placemat for daily use. I have had my old ones for several years that also bleed. So when I washed this New Bright Wine colored placemats, I added to my wash: SALT in the wash cycle and put VINEGAR in the rinse cycle. For me, I was doing a small load, Started with very cold water (I live in the north and it is winter, so the water is very cold). Added 1/4 cup of salt (add 1/2 salt is doing a normal or large load). A long with these Wine placemats, I added only dark red clothes (just incase the placemats did bleed). I added 1/2 cup on vinegar to the rinse cycle dispense (1 cup of vinegar if you are doing a normal or large load). I looked in the tub during the wash and rinse cycle and did NOT see any red dye. I dried the placemats on low for a short time and removed them while they were only half way dry (I don't have a space to let all wet items lay out to dry). The color is till the actual same Bright Wine color as the Unwashed placemats. But the washed placemats did shrink 2 inches in length. (This is OK with me because the placemats are large to start with.) The washed placemats did dry perfectly flat when thought I did lay them out flat to finish drying. I don't know if the Salt/Vinegar method permanently/semi-permanently set the dye, or I will have to do this each time. But either way, I have a lot of dark wine and black laundry that in the future I will always wash these placemats with if they do bleed and I don't do the Salt/Vinegar method that next time. I have always loved dark red ribbed placemats for daily use, so it is very possible I will be getting more of these in the future only because they are so hard to find, (I have been looking for years) getting more in Wine and also in Black. Somethings you love are worth the trouble. The label on my new placemats said they were made in India. I have had trouble in the past with other fabric from India bleeding. So it you get this placemats, you know that special care will be needed and they will never look like they did the day you received them. If you have another person in your household that also does the house laundry, they did to know these facts. Thank you again to the other reviews that gave me a heads up on this product.

Cheap!
I guess when you don't buy quality brands you can't expect quality.Do not buy these! This is what they look like out of the dryer but I have other place matts that come out of the dryer and do not need to be ironed.

Great quality and lovely colour
Used them at Christmas and they were just what I was looking for. They’re a lovely olive colour and quite large and thick. Really good quality material that looks the same after going through the washing machine. Would defiantly buy again if we needed more

Beautiful
Really happy with the Tango Red. Color is vibrant and beautiful.Nice thickness to them as well.Years ago I bought some at Sears but with fringes. I loved them and got a lot of use out of them. But now with Sears Canada being closed I decided to buy these. Really happy I did.13½ x 20 according to what I received.I haven't washed them yet but I will be washing them in cold water and hanging dry simply to minimize shrinking.Once I wash them I will measure them again and let you know :)Aug 19th 2021Had them for a year now and washed them several times. Never put them in the dryer.Just messured them and they are now 13 x 19. Only shrunk a bit in width.I have never put mine in the dryer. I always air dry. When I take them out of the washing machine I stretch them out by pulling on the ends before laying them out flat to dry or hanging them up.Hope this helps.

WTF?
