Barn Bird House

The birdhouse is well made and attractive I know the birds will flock to it in the spring. I intentend to cover it in the fall against the harsh New England winters.

I purchased this bird house as a crafting project to do with my 7-year old daughter and I've even been able to get my husband to help with some of the painting.This set is made of punch-out plywood pieces. The product description is not all that descriptive; it only comes with the plywood pieces and instructions on how to build the bird house. Glue, paint, paint brushes, and water-proof sealant, and any other extras you may need are not included in this kit and must be purchased separately. I do a lot of crafting so I had all of these supplies on hand, if I didn't I may have thought twice before purchasing this since it is quite a bit more money to get all of the additional supplies.This product states that it is for indoor/outdoor use. We plan on keeping ours inside as a decoration through the cold months, then we will place it outside in the spring. I cannot imagine that this bird house would survive outside very long without a good water-proof sealant over the top of the paint and it is not made to handle severe weather, so keep all of this in mind when purchasing.The instructions have been pretty simple to follow and we have had a lot of fun creating the bird house. We went with a bit of a different color scheme and the project is almost completed-I was post pictures of the finished product in a few days when it is all done.This is not the best quality stuff on the market, but I think it's a rather cute project and we have really enjoyed making it. I like to put together wooden doll houses that are usually in the price range of $75-$100 and I would say that the wood in those kits are practically the same quality as this set. They always turn out really cute, but they are for indoor use only. The reason I bring this up is so that you have the understanding that if you want to make this into an outdoor bird set with indoor-quality wood, extra work will be required. Along with the top-coat gloss and sealant I'm applying, I am also reinforcing the bottom with some thicker wood to make it hold together longer.Overall, it's a fun little project for $16 (price current as of 11/8/15) if you already have the supplies or don't mind spending some extra for the glue, paint, etc. It is turning out really cute and will make a nice decoration through the winter and hopefully home for some baby birds come spring.Discount provided for reviewing purposes. Let me say first off, SAVE YOUR MONEY. This birdhouse is made of flimsy plywood and will NOT withstand being outside. This as most is an indoor decoration. Second, This is more like a project for an 11 or 12 year old. Third. This kit doesn't contain everything to make that birdhouse as shown since you have to buy the paint and glue. It does have cut outs but they won't stay together without some extra help. Awful, Just Awful.I received this product in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Picture is slightly different from actual house. Color is much darker, (more of a cranberry), but still looks great against the landscape. Roof in picture comes down 8 slats, but mine only has 7. Not a big deal, but they don't meet the top of the (white) side, rectangle trim. No perch either. Seems like the birds could hold onto the white trim on the front, or I can always nail in a perch. All said, handcrafted, and still very nice for the price.

It is made from a thin wood, I don't feel it will withstand being outside. My nine year old son and I (mostly me) put it together, it did not come with paints we had to purchase them separate. It is a cute decoration, but we were disappointed because we were hoping to use it outside. I received this product at a discounted rate for my honest review.
