My new, favorite, small-sized car freezer
I have owned and reviewed over a handful of car freezers, including Foho/Costway, Donmende, and Rockpals. Each had their pros and cons. This Donmende looks very modern and has smart app functionality.PROS- Modern, clean design- Lightweight and "just the right size" for grocery shopping (my wife's own words)- One compartment for use as either freezer or fridge (with a small, lower-temperature section for 2 cans)- Fast freezing-- After 30 minutes, compartment went from 78F to 43F-- After 60 minutes, it went down to 4F- Temperature was roughly consistent during 1 day of continuous testing. It was set at -4F, and spot checking throughout the day resulted in between -2F and 0F- Auto resume: When power supply is cut off and later restored, appliance continues operation- Two (2) Power options-- 12V or 24V car adapter (draws about 38W or 3.3A on 12V)-- 100-240V AC wall plug (cable NOT included despite what's in the pictures or manual). Description DOES say that the AC adapter is NOT included--- You can buy an AC to DC inverter (search for ASIN B072JS62N4 or B07G584S2X for my recommendations)- Low energy usage. (See TIPS section for calculating how long the car freezer could be used for on a battery power station)-- Freezer only uses power to reach or maintain set temperature. Once there, it goes idle-- 50W with AC port of the Goal Zero Yeti 500X (8W of that is used by Yeti's inverter)-- 38W with 12V DC car port on the Goal Zero-- 0W – 2W on idle- Three (3) levels of Battery protection: High, Medium, Low-- Prevents the car battery from running down- Top opens sideways- Usable during off-roading-- Works at up to 30 degree angle tilt-- Anti-shake design keeps compressor protected- Sturdy carry grips on both ends- Can be used while the car is turned off, if its car port has a bypass to work directly off the battery-- Many SUVs, trucks, and minivans today have such output at the back. Refer to the car's owner manualCONS- Like other car freezers in this price range, requires manual defrosting-- To defrost and remove excess ice, power off the unit and wipe dry, then power back on--- Do not allow a large amount of frost to build up on the inside of the walls as that will make cooling less efficient-- I was not immediately able to find any portable car freezers that have an automatic, self-defrost cycle that "cleans" the freezer from accumulating too much frost- No protective carry bag included- Not waterproof. Keep it out of the rainTIPS- When you receive your car freezer, do NOT plug it in until it has stood upright for at least 10 hours to allow the refrigerant to settle- Internal temperature is displayed on the LCD at power-on and updates periodically- Power off/on by holding the "POWER" button for a few seconds- There is no built-in battery-- Requires a power station, 12V/24V DC/car port, 120V/220V AC, or solar panel(s) capable of providing at least 60W of sustained powerRUNTIME WITH BATTERY POWER STATIONS- To calculate how long the car freezer could be used for with a battery power station depends on the battery's capacity (Wh) and how much power (W) the car freezer draws- Examples are with a Jackery Explorer 1000 (1002 Wh). Halve the time when used with a Goal Zero Yeti 500x (500Wh)-- Plugged into AC port: 1002 Wh x 0.85 / Device Wattage--- As short as 16.3 hours (1002 Wh x 0.85 / 52W). Longer when idle---- Informal testing found an estimated use of 500-670 Wh/day as a fridge. It was idle much of the time--- About 10-15% of power is lost during conversion from DC (battery) to AC, which is normal for all power stations-- Plugged into DC port: 1002 Wh / Device Wattage--- As short as 25 hours (1002 Wh / 40W). Longer when idleCOOLING EFFICIENCY- Car freezer only uses power to reach or maintain the set temperature. Once there, it goes idle-- Time can be shorter or much longer, depending on how often the car freezer's compressor needs to be activated to reach or maintain target temperature- The colder the set temperature and/or the warmer the ambient (surrounding) heat, the more energy will be used-- Keep in a cool location and out of direct sunlight for best efficiency-- Consider putting the car freezer in an insulated bag for better cooling- Ensure adequate air flow (4"+) on all sides of the car freezer, especially where the fan is at- The more frozen/cold items are inside, the longer they can stay cool/frozen. Avoid opening the lid too often or for too longMAINTENANCE- Ensure lid seal is clean and unobstructed to keep cold air from escaping- Clean inside with a damp cloth every week-- Use sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) dissolved in lukewarm water to clean anything dirty-- Allow inside to dry before closing lid and putting away- Do not use detergent, soap, or abrasive/sharp products- Never clean under running water- Do NOT store the unit on its side. Always keep it upright to prevent damage to the compressorCONCLUSIONThe Donmende 19qt car freezer looks modern, is fairly lightweight, and cools FAST. It has an app control functionality with which you can quickly monitor existing temperature, set temperature, and configure advanced settings. It is my new, FAVORITE small-sized car freezer. I will upate this review with more details in the coming weeks as I work on fleshing out the full details. Stay tuned.

It's a game changer! No more dealing with ice bags!
This past summer I went on a week-long driving trip. I was traveling with my senior parents and my senior dog who requires a restrictive diet. We stayed at a different hotel every single night. While planning for my trip I mentioned to my friend that I was worried about the difficulties of traveling during the hottest time of the year. I needed to keep my dog’s food and medication cold during the whole trip 24 hours a day, but I didn’t want to deal with melting ice every day. So my friend was gracious enough to let me borrow his portable refrigerator (it was a different brand). And WOW! I cannot express how it was a game-changer for my travels!!! I was hooked! I came home and wanted to purchase one too!First, let me tell you why this portable fridge is life-changing for me. I travel long distances by car at least a couple of days per week. And with that, I’m always having to transport items (mainly groceries, home-cooked dog food, and coffee creamer) from one place to another. In the past, I would use a cooler bag and use ice bags to keep everything cold. But then once I arrive at someone else’s house or hotel, I’d have to quickly remove the items, throw the ice bags in a freezer (to transport stuff back) and hotels usually don’t have that option. BUT!!! Now with this fridge, I can plug it up (which gets cold within 15 mins) put it in the car, keep it plugged, and once I arrive carry it inside and re-plug it without having to remove a single item inside. No more ice bags to deal with. Here’s another impressive thing. This unit turns into a freezer too. I can’t eat dairy – so having regular ice cream is a no-go for me. And usually, for any type of party or gathering, I’m the one left out without eating any desserts. Now, I can bring my non-dairy ice cream anywhere during the blazing summer months. What I like about it:- Compact & Lightweight – it has a good amount of space to carry several of my food containers and drinks. 19 quarts doesn’t take too much space in the car or a hotel room.- Easy to Clean and there’s a plug on the bottom to drain any liquids.- Very user-friendly. Once it was plugged in, I was able to figure it out quickly. It has a nice clean modern look, nothing too fancy. It has handles on the sides which makes it easy to carry.- Can be controlled by using a phone APP on iPhone (a very simple and easy-to-use app) – I was able to keep an eye on the temp once I turned on/off the engine and restarted it back up from the driver’s seat.- The fridge got cold quickly to normal refrigerator temperature it only took about 15 minutes. It took a little bit longer to get to freezing temperature.- It comes with both the regular outlet plug and a V12 car charger.- It displays the temperature in both Fahrenheit and Celsius degrees (Unlike the one I borrowed was only in Celsius, which was annoying to calculate).- The cover opens up like a regular cooler.Things I wished were different:The fridge has 2 compartments – one that is a good size but the other is too small (the size of a spray paint bottle). I think the idea was good but not practical (I rather just have one big space). Here’s my overall thoughts on this portable fridge. It’s given me the ability to be flexible with time and the freedom to travel long distances with the convenience of keeping my items cold. I can also check on the temperature and even change it with a push of a button on my phone. I wished I would have purchased one a lot sooner. I’m glad I got the 19 quarts because it’s a perfect size for a middle-aged woman like me to transport regularly without help from others. It’s like having a microwave, it’s not for every family, but for the ones who do use them, life is much more convenient.

Game Changer! No More Ice, Everything Kept Cold!
I purchased for an off-roading weekend to use in the Jeep. Fantastic Cooler! I should have purchased the next size up, as it is a little small (a portion on the side is for the components). However, it kept everything temperature regulated, and cold as a cucumber! I love the ap from phone control, to check on it periodically. This is a game changer! No more soggy cooler water mess!

Doesn’t work
Doesn’t work and seller will not accept return for full refund nor will they replace the fridge. They ripped me off.
