Just plug this in to do a basic test of your Ethernet wires or jacks.It can be used to remotely turn on the indicator lamp on your router or switch so you can see what Ethernet wire each computer is on.Plugging it in makes the router or switch think a computer is plugged into it. So you can turn on your router "sync" light to verify the connection without having to plug in a computer when you are testing your wall jacks.

to test Ethernet connectivity in our network. It allows you to set up a loop in various points within your network to troubleshoot any bad connections. Thank goodness I never had to use it. But it was good to have this device on hand just in case.

Looks like a high quality product but I honestly haven't used it yet. I am sure it works great because the quality looks more that satisfactory. It is a great tool to have in the kit when working on networks.

I misunderstood the description of the device. My fault I know. I thought that there was an LED on the device which would light up if the network jack is live. What it actually does is to cause the light on the network device to light up which is useless if (like me) you intend on testing dozens of wall jacks without lights spread throughout several buildings.If all you need is a way to test jacks with lights then this tool should work fine. But if you need a tool to test jacks that may not have lights then search for a different product.Below is a quoted portion of the description which misled me."...the loopback completes a circuit to your switch or hub. The product works as advertised, but would be MUCH more useful if it had a small camera battery and could show a link light on the device.If you have to run across the building or have a coworker to check the other end of the wiring at a switch or router, using this type of tool can be frustrating and slow.
