So many other better priced/quality products
The quality on this is really subpar. The output is just.. not great. My biggest complaint is that it automatically stops recording whenever the input signal goes away. It'd be nice if it automatically started recording again when the signal came back, or just continually recorded until I manually stopped it.There are so many other products even a available here on Amazon that have a lot more to offer. This is grossly overpriced and is overall a very compromising experience.

A few oddities, but works well
I've been looking at these for weeks trying to figure out what works, what doesn't, and most reviews are useless since they don't tell you much about what people are trying to do, what how they hooked things together.I wanted to capture about 20 videos permanent on my DVR since they are no longer available from the video service, nor on DVD/BluRay. Thanks HBO. The DVR is old so it has a component out (in addition to HDMI), which is good, since it's an analog source that is not turned off. Using a component in on the EZ CAP, I was able to capture these video and the quality is close to the original although oddly the device itself only captured it at 15 fps, although they were recorded at 30 fps. The source is 1080i, although the EZ Cap only seems to capture 15 fps, even using HDMI.Second test was using HDMI, and as you'd expect, the device does not get around HDCP (even though this DVR is old enough that it only uses 1.4). However a relatively inexpensive splitter, the ViewHD 1x2 seemed to get around that. I got roughly the same results as using Component, although the video seemed choppier. I'm going to experiment more with that.I didn't try composite in, although that's a choice available to you.About the device itself, it's quite clever, it lets you know via flashing/steady LED's whether or not it can sense video on HDMI or component. It comes with a remote control to control input, start/stop recording, and and few other aspects that are on the front panel. The box itself has a timer that will let you use it as a crude recorder, and it has a real-time clock. I haven't figured out how that gets set, but I don't really intend on using it.As others have noted, you use FAT32 thumb drives, and because of the file system it automatically cuts the videos into 2GB chunks. VideoLAN is the easiest solution to putting it back together. I did not try to hook it to my PC, but it comes with editing software so you can hook this directly to your PC. That might be useful if you want to rebroadcast the video using some sort of video mixer. It's quite a good value, not perfect, but at this price point, it suits my needs. It has not gotten too hot as one reviewer mentioned, it doesn't seem to be fussy. One interesting feature is that if you use component in, you can send HDMI out in unencrypted format. If I figure out anything else with the HDMI input and whether that was just an anomaly, I'll update the review, but it's working great.

Didn't work constantly
I had to return it. Would stop recording unexpectedly.

Excellent. worth every single dollar
It does what it is advertised for. I was able to recover some really old videos from an 8 mm camera. I would recommend this product a 100%.

Not what i expected
tested with HDMI cable from basic to 1.4 and 2.0 does not change the image quality use it with xbox 360, wii or ps3 ps4 and xbox one x, for streaming only gives maximum 1080p at 30 fps, for recording it works well, every time a file reaches 2 gigabytes it stops and starts recording another, when you use a microphone and some headphones these let you hear the game very well in real time and the sound of the microphone is very good, but there was a problem with the ps3 to HDMI when u chose a game for ps3 the game looks perfect but when u chose a ps2 or ps1 game sometimes the colors get to dark and u cant really see much u have to disconect the HDMI cable and plug in again untill it regocnice the real colorstested components cable ypbpr and RGB, I tried it with the wii u, wii, ps2 and ps3 and PSP it only works with the wii u and PSP even though it has the problem of the HDMI as ps3 the colors are very opaque dark here it is useless to disconnect and connect them until it works only through OBS I let me put it the color at full range so that when streaming you look half decent with somewhat layered colors but that problem is fixed for your audience, but for you, the game still looks opaque since changing the option in OBS does not change it in your TV as a capturer would Avermedia or Elgato, with wii the sound works normal but the image lags and loses signal randomly recording or via streaming, with ps2 you only see the image with lagg and it is delayed a lot without sound, with ps3 some games work others not and gives the problem that the colors are very opaque without a solutiontested with RCA, PS2, Wii, Sega Genesis, Famicom, SNES cable, it only works with PS2 and Wii the low image quality because they lose the color of the 5-color cables but only in this way the audio and the image lag disappears, with the famicom, SNES, Genesis does not work only the games are listened to but the image freezesPS2 with DVD let me record and transmit without problems with 3-color cable although the quality drops a lotI tried to use the program that comes inside "ShowBiz", it installed fine, but every time I want to use it it says that the capturer is being used by another program, searching the internet I saw that others have this problem but nobody has a result or the page from the same programIn conclusion, I only "recommend" this capturer if you need one and you want it now, it has a good method for recording remember that the colors will be very opaque and dark and that it is disappointing that it cannot capture all the consoles well with 5-color cable or 3 colors without giving you problems and what made it UNIQUEProbado con cable de HDMI desde el basico al el 1.4 y el 2.0 no cambia la calidad de imagen lo use con xbox 360, wii u ps3 ps4 y xbox one x, para streaming solo da máximo 1080p a 30 fps, para grabación funciona bien, cada que un archivo llega a 2 gigas se detiene y empieza a grabar otro, cuando usas un microfono y unos audífonos estos dejan escuchas muy bien el juego en tiempo real y el sonido del micrófono es muy bueno, pero me dio problemas con el ps3 con juegos de ps3 no tuve ningún problema pero cuando puse un juego de ps2 o de ps1 aveces se ponían los colores bastan obscuros que casi no se distingue nada para arreglarlo tienes que desconectar el cable de HDMI hasta que agarre los colores que debe de tener.
