SIIG DP Soundwave 5.1 PCIe Optical Out (IC-510111-S2)

For the price I bought it for, I shouldn't expect it to make me coffee in the morning. I did expect it (and falsely) to play 5.1 sound through the optical in video games; I say falsely because I didn't know that that's only possible for sound cards that offer Dolby Live or the DTS equivalent. It's because video games carry uncompressed sound and optical outputs only carry compressed, basically. Dolby Live cards are called "Live" because they transcode all those sounds on the fly in realtime. So anyway, I gave the product 3 stars because the analog outputs are scratchy and not loud OR accurate at all.

This is the third SIIG card I have owned. Like the rest, it has done exactly as designed with the minimum of required work (plug and play.) Build quality seems excellent. And again, they made the effort to develop working drivers for MS Server. Makes it a very good solution for smaller organizations or remote sites where the server also serves some time as a person's workstation. Well done on finding an filling a needed niche!

I love that it supports various Windows operating systems. It works fine with HP DL and ML series servers. I highly recommend this card.
