Simple and easy to use!............with addendum.
I finally took the plunge and purchased a vacuum sealer and I picked the best one available! It is so very easy to use and I am completely satisfied with the size, functions and the variety of uses I have for it. I have used foil and plastic freezer bags to store food in the freezer and invariably I have to discard food because of freezer burn and ice accumulation inside the packages. Now with the GVS415 Vacuum Sealer, I know I will be saving money and keeping my food items fresh for longer periods. It is especially useful for left overs and now I don't have to consume the same food for days on end. I can not find one single thing to fault with this appliance. Also questions presented to the seller were answered promptly and additional suggestions regarding the product were offered. I am one happy customer!OOOPS!!! it stopped working after 6 months and very little use. I would have thought it would work even with heavy use for a longer period of time. I followed the instructions to the letter and took good care of it but alas, it died!

We received this recently and just used for the first time. My husband and I are both dazzled by this machine! We bought it to use for our new sous-vide cooking, but we can already see that we'll use it for other things, including making packets of meat and other foods for the freezer.

dinners are much easier now
I bought this a few weeks back and have tried it with dry goods (flour, sugar), breads, meats - both cooked and raw and vegies. I have frozen the meats and vegies (both raw and cooked) after sealing as well as just refrigerated them. I was happily surprised that the cooked meats were even more tender after thawing then when I put them in the freezer. Guessing the vacuum helps with this. Vegies tended to "expand" as they aged - guessing they let off natural gasses when aging - but they did last longer in the fridge by a couple days before the "expand" occurred. I didn't find it worth the effort to vacuum seal the vegies that were being kept in the fridge for only a couple extra day's storage. And I would caution about bread - make sure you stop the vacuum manually - I had some sliced bread that really shrunk up (was good for a laugh and stuffing later).Overall, I am very happy with this product - it is small enough to fit in a medium sized draw in my kitchen and easy to use and not a lot of clean up needed. There was plenty of bag material to get started that came with this. After that I ordered and have been using "simplehouseware 11x50 and 8x50 commercial vacuum sealer rolls" which seem to be slightly heavier gauge plastic.Good machine to cook a large roast or such on the weekend and seal/freeze smaller pkgs of leftovers for workday lunches and busy evening dinners. They microwave from frozen in only a couple minutes.

I was replacing a Wolfgang Puck unit that I loved until it stopped sealing my bags
This sealer seemed to be just what I was looking for....I was replacing a Wolfgang Puck unit that I loved until it stopped sealing my bags. The problem is that this Gourmia unit didn't suction all the air out when I tried to vacuum seal meats. It seemed to be pulling most air out but would stop suctioning before the package was airtight. Strange thing is that I tried sealing a spoon and a tube of moisturizer and the package was definitely airtight. Just would not work properly with meats.and believe me, I tried everything. Called the manufacturer and they could not figure a fix for it or a reason this might be happening. Send mine and my gift unit back.

Inexpensive vacuum bag sealer that works as well as expensive models.
I purchased this in an attempt to defeat the plastic waste of my Food Saver vacuum sealer. This device wastes at least 1.5 inches of bag material each time you create a new bag, actually it's more like 3 inches per bag if you don't want to wrestle with the bag trying to get it to seal with a shorter lead in to the sealing slot on the Food Saver. With my new Gourmia I do not get any waste at either end of the bag. It seals fast and tight, So far I have not had a single seal fail. It is absolutely great for Sous Vide use as you get smaller bags without the wasted 1.5 inch bag material hanging off the end of the bag.

Works some of the time!
Sorry but this product is proof that you get what you pay for. I had an expensive name-brand sealer that I completely wore out after 8 years. Saw this one and should have known better but I ordered it! While I can say it does work, at least some of the time. It “sometimes” sucks all the air out but I found that about half the time it would start sucking then just stop and seal. Not what I expected. And other times it just got stuck on the sucking part and never sealed. Would return if I hadn’t gotten rid of the box.

Great Product, Great Price!
This is the first time I've used a vacuum sealer so I have no basis for comparison. That said, this product met my expectations. I seals well, quickly and efficiently. I'm very glad I didn't spend money on a more expensive appliance.

If too small it won't suck out the air and if too big
This works, but I find it takes my full strength to lock it, and it can be frustrating until you figure out the exact size bag to cut for the amount of food you put in it. If too small it won't suck out the air and if too big, well that is a waste of plastic. I also learned that if you dehydrate certain vegies like green beans and want them sealed to store, well, after a little bit the bags aren't holding air. Reason the dried green beans poke tiny holes in the bag when the air is being sucked out. More waste of plastic. A learning process for sure. Once you learn what works the process is fairly quick and easy if you are stronger than I am. :-) I'm still learning.

Awesome New Gadget!
The media could not be loaded. I love my new kitchen toy!I've wanted one of these for ages and finally treated myself. Its so cool, you just cut the bag off the roll to size, press a button to seal one end, put your food in the bag you made then press another button that magically sucks all the air out and seals it!Saves so much space in my freezer and perfect for this time of year, wish I'd got it sooner, highly recommend!

Vacuum Sealer Gourmia GVS415
I have mainly used this for vacuum sealing hop pellets for brewing and herbsPros -When it works, it makes a strong vacuum with a good sealSeal always seems to be consistentQuick and easy to useIncludes a roll of vacuum bag which can be cut to size.Heats up quicklyCons -Vacuum doesn't always work (using the included vacuum roll bags), quickly cuts out and goes straight to the sealing step.Vacuum sometimes doesn't stop to start the seal (though you can quickly hit click stop and seal to maintain the vacuum).Power cable is very shortClips/clamps require a lot of clamping force to engage (I know it needs to make an air tight seal but some may struggle to use and it feels like you're trying to break it)For a low use item its fine and the cost is about right, I will continue to use mine and am happy with the purchase. If you're looking to use with a high frequency and need a reliable vacuum seal this may not be the one for you.

It’s very good but not excellent
It’s a nice well made piece of equipment looks nice seems to seal the bags well sadly it definitely does not seal wet items I blanched some green beans shook them dry and bagged them pressed vacuum seal button it sucked out the air but the moisture stopped the seal from actually making a good seal once the lid was lifted the air rushed back in I tried to do the process three times but it wouldn’t seal so had to freeze them with a little air in the bag. It does seal dry items so I’m keeping it I’m giving 4 stars as I bought it because it states it does do wet but not very well but for the money it’s a decent buy and the cable coil facility underneath is an excellent idea and puts the cable away nicely

Doesn’t work
I’ve had lots of problems getting this vacuum sealer to work. The seal is very inconsistent leaving gaps on either end so I end up having to do it multiple times. Then the vacuum almost never works. The only time it does is if I cramp it down using all my strength and even then it does 100% remove all of the air. Really not pleased as this was a present for my partner. Will be contacting customer services

Good product
Good product. Works well and is easy to use. Only thing that would be handy is a bag cutter blade. However for the price, sharp scissors do the job fine.
