Fast and furious.
This is the third book in the Jack McCoy series written by one of my favourite author which has a good plot and good characters and the pace of the book never slow down however it is not the best work of the author.

Great fast read
While initiating I was disappointed that this was not a Bosch or Micky Waller book, this was an enthralling read. Fast well paced and kept the reader moving along to the next page. Enjoyed it.

Disappointed
The first Michael Connelly book I've been disappointed by..characters sound & feel 2 dimensional and sketchy.Good central theme/plot to begin with, but which soon becomes far fetched and superficially thought though. Came away feeling thay this was ghost written. I'm really hoping this never happens to Harry Bosch.

Connelly is brilliant
His plotting is incredible. Writes brilliantly. The best Crime and Thriller writer since the Day of the Jackal

****
Not interesting. Police sleeping. Journalist acting as investigator.

Went from 2 to 4 stars
I struggled to get half way through. I'm not fond of the main characters so unlike many other books, the Jack McEvoy books have to have a strong story to hook me. The Poet and the Scarecrow are right up there among the books I love so this started out as a major disappointment. However, once Jack got really invested into actually acting rather than just researching the books the gears shifted and the rest of the books vanished in no time.----Mini-maybe-a-spoiler-warning---I wish Jack could get a family and some of the happiness he so clearly wants but given the author's treatment of Bosch, Haller and Terry McCaleb maybe the end of this book is as good as it's ever going to get for him!
