I ordered this book for a friend's newborn baby, excited to give them a bright, colorful, decorative book with gilded pages and illustrations. I waited weeks for the delivery. Well, the book was clearly remade since some of the older customer reviews from four or five years ago. This is not the beloved purple-cover Reader's Digest version that I wanted. This version looks, feels, and reads like a textbook. The 2019 Throne Classics edition is 700+ pages of drab, monotonous, dense text. I can't even comment on the translation, because I was so disappointed with the book I got in the mail that I didn't sit down to read through it much at all. I'm sure this is good for young adults and college students with a fascination for the material, so this isn't a one-star item, but this is certainly a disappointment based on my expectations and not ideal for younger kids and their storytime.

We own several original fairy tale books illustrated by Kay Nielsen, so I was really excited to see this book offered for sale. Alas! It is extremely poor quality. The print and the illustrations look like they are directly copied from an original book. The print is very small with a lot of space for the margins. The colors on the prints are smudged and indistinctive. It looks like an unauthorized copy to me. Sending it back today! Rats.
