Incredible Weather Station - A Must Have...
The media could not be loaded. I know this model has been out for awhile but I have to say it...It's about time the displays with weather stations caught up with the rest of the world. I've been wanting to replace my older weather station for some time...all the while I dreamed of the display's being more graphic and in color. After looking over what Amazon offers...I found some which had the text in color and the forecast in color...however nothing "Wow'd" me in terms of the display until I came across the AcuRite 01024M Pro.Once received I had it installed within a couple days. I couldn't believe how easy it was compared to my older system. What made the installation a breeze (no pun intended lol) was the fact that the sensors are all housed within one unit...unlike the older systems which had at least three separate sensors and wires. It was as simple as attaching the sensor housing to a dowel at the height I wanted and then attach the dowel to the roof. Done. Going back to the display...all I had to do was plug it in and it automatically started the setup process and detected the sensors. In fact I didn't even need to look at the user guide it was so simple. And of course, the display was awesome. I loved the graphics...gives more of a computer feel to it...yet the info is laid out in an orderly fashion and easy to understand. An added plus which I actually love...seeing how the display is always on...is the option to dim the brightness at a specific time in the evening or...to have the display go into a sleep mode at a specific time and wake back up at a specific time. The screen dims and only shows the most important current weather info. If you need to see the main screen you simply press a key and it wakes up. The display goes back to sleep after 15 seconds of the last key press. This is very handy at night. I have mine go to "sleep" shortly after I call it a night, and wake back up about an hour before I get up. Now that is a very clever handy function. This system also updates more frequently when it comes to wind guests than my older system did which means it catches more guests with less data loss. My older system updated every 30 seconds...you can miss vital wind gust info within a 30 second span. So...this was an added plus for me. And lastly, this weather station also detects lightning which is a first for me. On day one after I installed it we had another winter storm push through and behind it heavy showers. This system detected a single lightning strike about 9 miles away...most likely off shore as we live on the coast. You see the lightning alert on both the display and the portable detector. I like how it actually tells you how many miles away the lightning was. To know if lightning is getting closer or moving further away you simply see if the system is reporting lighting with the distance decreasing or increasing. Decreasing means getting closer and increasing moving away. Simple enough. One thing to note, as you look at the included photos, I also have a wired wind gauge which is the small display you see above this weather station's display...and to the left of this stations sensors on my roof. And yes...I also purchased it from Amazon. It's electronic and gives me up to the second wind info...so a more accurate wind reading. While the wireless update window with the AcuRite 01024M Pro is much faster than older systems...there is still some data loss due to the update window it has...which is why I have a second wind gauge...kind of like a back-up system.So...if you're looking for a well put together weather station with clean crisp graphics...and in color to boot...I highly recommend this system. I'm very happy with my purchase and look forward to tracking the remaining winter storms of 2017 as they push through our area. Hope this review helps you to make your decision....

There are good points and some I have questions about
I am still getting acquainted with the device. There are good points and some I have questions about. It is great at registering wind and direction, also with gauging rain (what little we have had). It seems to read high as far as high temperature each day (compared with local weather station at airport), by about 5 degrees. The lightning monitor has worked and sensed lightning up to 20 miles away. We are just starting into T-storm season here in southern Utah. Humidity reads are good. I would prefer to be able to turn off the monitor at night instead of leaving the screen on continually even at a lower illumination, but that is not an option. And I still question what happens when the electricity goes off----does that cancel everything? Or does it have a small battery built into the system to retain readings? That hasn't happened yet, and I don't want to unplug it to test it yet.So I am happy with the station mostly but I have not even had it a month so I will await and see what happens over time. I was able to place an 8 foot post on a high mound of ground in a clear area, not hemmed in by anything for a more objective reading of weather, and that could hopefully make a difference on my readings----but it will take months to see how everything works and records.I am happy that I got it.

Most Accurate Weather Station I've Tried
When the weather station arrived and installed I was very pleased. The dual solar panels operated a small fan that cooled the sensor and gave accurate temperatures. The rain gage was accurate as were all the readings. The HD display was nice and had a feature that you could set to turn it off at night. But then one day when I unplugged the display to move it to another location and plugged it back in the display stuck on the opening screen. A quick research revealed this was an ongoing problem with these displays. Long story short, I contacted customer service and explained the issue and pointed out what was being reported on the forums and they replaced the display for free even though it was out of warranty. This is why I still give this unit five stars.I tried two other brands including the highly rated Ambient WS-2000 and I can't understand why it's so highly regarded. It never gives a true "feels like" temperature like my Acurite. But worse, even after five weeks it didn't get a single reading correct. Comparing it to other stations in my neighborhood on Weather Underground as well as the local weather station at the airport they would report barometric pressure dropping while the Ambient would show it rising. Another example, the forecast for local weather was rain for the next five days but the Ambient showed a sunny icon (clear skies) constantly. I realize the manual says its forecasts are only 70% correct but this unit was batting zero. The Acurite, on the other hand, it remarkably accurate in its forecasts and readings which is another reason for the five star review.BTW so many reviewers complain about a lack of battery in the display, but the more expensive and popular Ambient WS-2000 doesn't have one either. And no, you don't lose historical data when the power goes off. The power has to be off several minutes before the clock needs to be reset, but you never lose historical data. All you need to do is set the clock just like you do with your microwave.
