Just does everything right I collect and have 6 high end $1000+ dacs. I prefer this over chord qute ex!
I bought this to take a chromecast audio to the next level through reclocking of the spdif. Not only did it do that beyond my expectations it ended up in y reference system along side at least $50,000 in accompanied hardware. I have had or still have most up the front runner dacs on the market in the 1-2k range. I prefer the sound of this via analog out and i have a seriously resolving system. In my system this has zero unwanted noise. I cant see any reason to mod this whatsoever although i certainly wouldnt shy away from obtaining one. This marginally is more resolving than the CHORD QUTE EX that i own. I also prefer this to the analog out of the legendary transporter although they share a bloodline. AK439X MULTIBIT! I have 3 mutec mc3 in daisy chaine all clocked at 10 mhz the mutec is being fed via a heavily reclocked usb signal and yet this $200 behringer fed with chromecast audio tidal stream is what im getting goosebumps from. I have 20+ pairs of speakers focal, triangle and not the entry level stuff. Amps? I have many. Ultimate 70 dynaco, teac distinction, hypex, class d audio sds, nuforce, harmon signature 2.1, emotiva and every conceivable combination i have tried with this humble behringer could easily be reference worthy reproduction. I dont know if its the engineering or simply the fact its +4db(pro level) on the output thats making this so magical but it really is. Before this i considered my mutec purchase the best money spent in hifi. So much so i obtained 3 over time. Had i discovered this first nothing would have ever led me to even need the mutec. Also im adapting the outputs to rca with a oem quality xlr to rca and in theory im not even using its output optimally. Still amazing though. As far as reclocker functions guess what it supports 10mhz referenced externally. Thats right tried and tested. I can clock any spdif chromecast, apple tv etc at 10mhz through this machine and it will give me digital pass through aanndd an effing beautifully converted balanced analog signal. Again this is all stock no mods. Again why bother? Its more than good enough! Do yourself a serious service and get 2 of these. Im sure people will disagree with me and when that happens i will sincerely apologize in advance for thinking that either they are dumb or crazy. Any one who underrates this is lying to themselves. I would like to find measurements of the stock units and see if it correlates to what i hear. honestly though measuring tells only a small part of the tale and if it was terrible in that regard it wouldn't matter. I would still defend this product til the end of time. I challenge nyone to a-b this unit against any dac at any price included the davinci dac or anything and say that this wasnt 90% as good. I happen to also be very technical in this hobby and coincidentally y career. I am fortunate enough to work as an installer of high end audio systems for a company that exclusively handles celebrity and high status clients. Why should you take my word on this review? Because i have been hands on with the most high end gear available and i need to know my gear inside out to be able to troubleshoot these expensive products n Christmas day when a clients household guest messes up a setting that affects system playback and you get a call describing lights and buttons. These clients expect nd demand the best support and im that guy for a reason. I would whole heartedly put my reputation on the line and recommend this to any client on any budget. Only because i know what this can do. And the absolute ast thing i can say is yes its kind of ugly but doesn't come off as cheap and isn't as ugly as i was expecting. Unfortunately she's not a show piece but lampizator actually fitted the pcb in to a nicer chassis which is something m seriously considering. I never ever in a million years thought i would write a review like this and yes im very late to the table on this product. its already had most of its 15 minutes but its accreditation is most well deserved!

And you call yourself and audiophile??
For many years, I hung on to my Sumo Theorem DAC for it's ability to render high quality sound. Despite my collection of HT receivers with built-in DACs and sample rates up to 96khz (Sony, Panasonic, JVC), the Sumo beat them all soundly... until the SRC2496 took center stage.I've been both a musician (retired) and audioholic for over 30 years so I think I have a good grasp of what musical instruments actually sound like. The SRC2496 has the ability to reproduce musical instruments with incredible accuracy and is by far one of the best DACs I have ever listened through (not listened to) regardless of price. It takes itself out of the equation and with it's upsampling and reclocking features, the improvement is immediate and striking. It also allows you to compare the straight through digital signal to the reclocked signal with a couple of button presses. If your original recording is of poor quality, the SRC2496 isn't going to make it sound better but you WILL hear the flaws with greater clarity. Conversely, on a great recording, you will hear things that you didn't know were there before. Audiophiles would say that the 2496 is more analytical than musical in it's presentation but I'm not into the personification of equipment so I'll just say it's accurate and for some of you it might be accurate to a fault.Pro equipment generally gets a bad rap from Audiophiles but this is equipment for people who make music, not critique it. As for the reputation that Behringer equipment has in some circles, (I don't know how it got started), This is my second piece of Behringer electronics and so far, they have been among the finest pieces of technology I have ever owned (I just ordered a third Behringer product). The price is a bargain, the quality has been superb (yes, I opened them to take a look) and the performance is stellar. This review isn't aimed at the pros, it's aimed at the home user that wants a big upgrade without the big $$$. The 2496 is the price of dinner and a movie with your partner and brings digital quality almost to the level of top end vinyl (32-bit/192khz would put it on-par IMHO). If you're smart, stop reading my review and buy this thing if you don't mind having an chintzy (yeah, it has too many lights) box on the rack (I hid mine behind the rack) your ears will thank you.

very good for the money
never try this type of system before but so far is pretty good specially for the value. you can actually hear the difference between the bits when you switch from 16 to 24 bits it is very good in converting the digital signal no complaint for the price is just excellent.

The Real Deal
Upsampling capability combined with a superb Japanese DAC. Also able to convert analogue to digital for those wanting to archive their vinyl.Pair this with a competent used cd/dvd transport (plentiful and inexpensive online these days) and you have a stellar high end player for the cost of one of those overpriced 'magical' interconnects. An honest product with none of the pretensions of audiophilia. Highly recommended.

It sounds pretty good once I get it to work
Well...the product did not work out of box. Thought I have to do a RMA but gave Behringer Tech support online a try. Turned out the problem was solved by a simple reset of the system which the provided manual does not cover. Credit the Behringer online Tech support for their promptness in replying my inquiry. This is quite a versatile piece of equipment...especially if one needs A/D as well as sample rate conversion between sources. The analog output sound is surprisingly good...considering its price as well as its purpose as a professional product.
