Not much magic - lots of work for the adults
We didn’t want an advent calendar with candy for the kids and went looking for an alternative. Many of the toy options are filled with junk that will end up as clutter around the house. I was looking for something that would be fun for the kids but wouldn’t get them sugar highs or linger after the holidays. This seemed like a good option, however there are some drawbacks that will have us buying chocolate next year!Things to know:1) a lot of the projects are more science-y and less magic (not necessarily a negative, but something to know)2) the projects can’t be done by a 7 yr old without adult help (at all). As an example, at least two require the stove.3) some of the projects take days to complete.4) some of the projects take 45 minutes of active engagement (which when you are doing them everyday can be annoying if not impossible to squeeze in on a school night)5) many of the projects require things from around the house - nothing too outlandish but you may or may not have all the thingsI still gave it 4 stars as my kids had fun and there were projects for everyday. It was just too much hassle for my preference/schedule.

Intense Family Projects.. 4.5 out of 5!
Whew! I got this kit thinking that it would be fun for my 9 and 10 year old girls to try out...and it /was/. It just /really/ needs tons of adult supervision (especially with the dyes)...Like seriously. Watch those kiddos. There were times that we were rooting around for the extra "not included" items ...like milk and water bottles, etc. All and all they have a good time, but the products themselves don't last very long...they typically /work/ but maybe not /exactly/ as it shows in the picture. We do a project and then just toss it.I would say 10 of these projects were a big hit, 5 were fabulously fun but were incredibly messy and required adult supervision, and the other 9 were /fine/ ... but meh. Most of the items included in the kit were inexpensive, what you are really paying for is the "Instruction book" for the activities, which was definitely worth it. All in all, my girls have enjoyed the STEM activities, although VERY messy, it was worth it to have a good parent/kiddo time that we don't usually have.Would I do this again? Maybe. It's a lot of work though *_*

I had high hopes
My 9 year old nephew has been getting into magic tricks and really likes when I do the “caterpillar” trick with the straw sleeve. Usually I’d get him lego advent calendars, but he hasn’t been great with playing or rebuilding broken sets after they’ve been built. They just sit in pieces and get thrown into a bucket. So as an alternative, I thought he’d like this advent calendar, and figured he might actually learn something useful because there’s science hidden in here. I followed up to see if he liked this and he didn’t really have the greatest feedback. I guess some projects were more involved than others and they didn’t have all the supplies in the house to do some of them. They also could see all of the other projects in the calendar in the handbook vs be completely surprised each day. So I was a little bummed it didn’t go as well as I had hoped. It might have also helped to have an adult in the house who likes science to be help with this.

Really nice
The experiment and activities included in this KR really fun, but I feel that a child might need help from an adult for some of the projects aa they can get messy.CAUTION: for my day nine packet, it came with food coloring in glass bottles and one of the glass bottles had broken. It can be a bit dangerous and I don’t know why they put them in glass instead of plastic. So be careful when handling. Otherwise, I love its uniqueness

Not what I expected; kiddo disappointed
This is not magic tricks at all, but science experiments. So that’s ok but not what I wanted. Also, some of the boxes are very disappointing for kids hoping for a neat surprise - one box actually only contains one paper towel. So I’m not excited about this and my kiddo is disappointed.

More like Science Experiments
This calendar is a little hit and miss which leads to some disappointing days. Day 2 was a big bust!! My son still looks forward to opening it but each experiment requires extra items not included, so it’s best to look ahead and make sure you’re ready for the next day. I probably would not purchase this again as it seems like more money went towards the printing of guide as opposed to the items in each box but it’ll do for this year.Edit: Day 6 literally only has a paper towel in it 🤣🤣🤣 definitely look ahead because quite a few household items are needed for these 🤦🏻♀️

Cool product
Cool product. My son was 10/11 during the holiday season. He got kind of bored with it towards the end, but there were some really cool tricks that he liked. There were also a couple we didn’t have all the ingredients for. I think 7-9 is probably the best age for this.

No chocolate or cheap chotskies here
I was pleased with the quality but what was more pleasing was the parents calling to say what a neat gift this was. Even the in-laws were impressed. Most important was the way my 8 year old niece recapped every experiment with excitement when she saw me on Christmas Eve

Broken item
I bought this for my 11 year old son as his Christmas advent. He really enjoyed it but was disappointed that one of the days had broken products. Hence 4 stars instead of 5.

Lovely experiments but overpriced
It's been good fun. The book with the descriptions is brilliant, but the whole box is quite expensive for what you get. Most days you would get household materials - a piece of paper, some straws, a balloon, etc... I would say it's more like to be a £15 box

Great fun and educational advent calendar
My son has opened the first box today and I have to say this is the best advent calendar we have had by far. The calendar is accompanied by a book talking you through each experiment step by step and explaining the science behind each trick/experiment. Really looking forward to tomorrow’s box.
