KitchenAid 5 Ultra Power Speed Hand Mixer - KHM512, Matte Black

Best mixer I have ever owned! I will never buy another brand. This thing really goes and low is actually low. It beats heavy batters and does great with whipping cream.

For something labeled “ultra powered” I feel that this is lacking. My 15 year old hampton bay mixer that JUST went out on me was more powerful, and steadier. This one shakes very roughly as it’s mixing.

I love how easy it is to use and store. The mixing speeds are good and the mixer is not as loud as it seems to be. The mixer is very light and it doesn’t feel cheap and can stay on for very long . I don’t regret buying this at all.

I purchased this brand of hand mixer based on the reviews and the Kitchen Aid reputation to make cheesecake tarts. The packaging arrived unsealed with instructions however, I could tell that the unit & accessories were new because the beaters were sealed in plastic packaging & the plug-in end of the cord was zip-tied. That said, upon first glance, I was disappointed in the thinness of the beaters - they did not look like the traditional thick, sturdy, robust beaters that I grew up with. But before making a judgment, I wanted to put the unit to the test first. I didn't read the instructions, as assembly of the beaters seemed pretty straightforward & self-explanatory - insert until they snap into place. That said, I was only able to successfully insert one of the two beaters into the slot - the other beater would not insert with multiple attempts. I read a review which attested to this. Needless to say, I was disappointed because I intended on making desserts to gift for Christmas & I didn't have time to return & order a new device. I decided to test out the mixer using one beater. I was surprised at how powerful it was at the lowest setting with only one beater. However, I found it unstable, difficult to hold & use for mixing cream cheese. I don't know if that was due to only having one beater in place, or whether it was the unit itself. And I will never know because I do not intend on reordering the unit! Even though the unit had significant power at all settings, I was not impressed by the beater aesthetics, the inability to attach one of the beaters & the way it felt in my hand. Kitchen Aid is a top brand but they did not wow me with their hand mixers. I will resort to good old fashion Black & Decker, which I grew up with & have used successfully. Additionally for the price, this unit only includes two beaters whilst other brands & units include traditional beaters, a whisk & dough hooks.
