Works great, brings some of the features of a DSLR to a bridge camera!
This couples well with a Marumi circular polarizer. To install on your G12 there is a small button below the lens which allows you to remove the ring around the lens. Once this is off you can screw this in its place. Dont worry about the zoom hitting the glass as this will expand and contract as needed just like a DSLR lens. The purpose of this adapter is to allow you to use 58mm filters such as CPLs, neutral density, UV etc. After using DSLRS such as the 7D for years I have to say I am pleasantly surprised! Good job Canon!

Good Canon G12 addition.
I bought this adapter so that I could protect the moving lens on my Canon G12 and also keep it stratch free. I use this adapter to mount the Canon UV filter. I'm happy with the setup but I think there is a slight drawback. I sometimes get a dark area on the lower right corner of some flash pictures and believe it is caused by the adapter shadowing the G12 built in flash when the lens and adapter extend fully. Quality of Canon items still great so am a little disappointed if this the cause of the shadow only when using the flash.

fantastic!
Got this so I can use macro and other filters on my g12. I am very pleased! It has a quality feel to it, screwed on smoothly and moves smoothly with my lens when I zoom. The only downside is when using the built in flash, as it casts a shadow. So I will be shopping for an attached flash, as this is going to be a permanent fixture on my g12! It also makes the camera look more like a dslr if you are into that kind of thing...I am just happy I can use filters now!

Blocks view finder
Buyer be ware: When using this filter adapter with the Canon G12 it blocks out about half of the sight through the viewfinder. Yes, some of us still use the view finder.

It Works but....
This adapter does everything it intends to do. It also looks really cool, and does not disturb the balance of the camera. However, it is difficult to use the direct viewfinder with this adapter, as the lower right hand part of your field is obscured by the adapter. Using the beautiful electronic display on the G12 gets around this problem, but I like the viewfinder for many shots. Using the built in flash is more of a problem. The flash cannot illuminate about 10% of the field, as the adapter gets in the way, creating a black shadow over the lower right part of the picture. Therefore this adapter needs to be removed whenever you use the flash. This is difficult if you like to shoot with the flash in the automatic mode.

Works on Canon G12!
This fits on my Canon G12 no problem. Also have a B+W UV filter on it. Was very helpful at the beach to make sure no sand got caught into the shutter or lens. Great with my Hoya HD polarizer as well. I do not feel that the resistance is so strong that it would eventually break the lens mechanism. It also helps with steadying the camera with two hands when shooting, and when it is sitting on a table or flat surface. Although the bottom on the filter does make the camera tilt up at the front. If you have a quick release for a tripod permanently attached to the G12 this helps too but it's more annoying than a flaw. Also this filter does block part of the on camera flash and probably the AF assist light. I noticed if you are taking pictures with flash, it is best to take it from a distance. It is less noticeable. When you take close up pictures(less than 3 ft) you can have people with half of their face lit up and half in shadow. Easy solution is just to get a external flash like the canon 270ex or 270exII. You could also was take the filter off.

Glad to be able to put a filter on this camera.
I bought this for my G11 and it fits perfectly and works great. I have really wanted to put a polarizing filter on the G11 and really looking forward to putting this to work on the Big Island on vacation soon.

Nice option for filters
This is a great solution to add different type of filter capabilities to the Canon G series. I own the G12 and love the fact that I do not need to add different types of extension tubes to add filters to the camera. The spring loaded retractable mechanism of the FA-DC58B is a smart solution and avoids the dreadful vignettes.I used it in my recent trip to the beach and it is easy to install and use. Just be careful not to installed right at the beach since you can get some sand in the threads. The only drawback is that it plastic, so you have to be careful not to damage the threads while installing it. But it is not a big deal.
