It's so much easier to use an adapter for an aftermarket radio installation. Too many connections and too easy to make a mistake. Just wire it to the harness for the new radio following the diagrams for the radio and the adapter. Plug the radio harness into it and the adapter into the vehicle radio harness and you are good to go. Make sure you fasten the wires securely and they are insulated from touching the vehicle or each other. I used insulated connectors and shrink tube for added protection. IMPORTANT: In my installation the vehicle harness was VERY different in the same year and radio. 1990 Chevy Suburban (I didn't expect to find an adapter to fit) I suggest you pull your old radio out and take pictures of the vehicle harness. When you find the adapter here, compare the vehicle harness to the adapter pictures to make sure you get the correct one. I didn't do that so, of course, I ordered the wrong one and had to get the correct one. (Thanks for the return policy of Amazon, EASIEST return every!) Installing a radio couldn't be easier. If I install another radio I'll definitely get the adapter harness for the vehicle. I'd also order an antenna wire extender too. A little more slack on it never hurts.

I always use these harness kits when upgrading a stereo in one of my cars. I solder and heat-shrink each line, but you can use simple crimp splices too. A little time wiring this in the comfort of my workshop and the stereo swap in the car only takes seconds. The industry seems to have standardized on colors for the wires, so the wiring chart with the stereo will usually confirm that you just mach colors from the new stereo to the harness. In addition, the wires on this devices are *supposed* to be labeled but on the one I received, the printing was very faint on some wires, non-existent on others. Still, very hard to go wrong and I can set the factory radio aside for trade-in time when it goes back in the car in about 2 seconds.

It is rather misleading to infer that this will work in replacing a factory radio with an after market one. After contacting Scosche customer service, because this adapter did not fit/work in connecting to my vehicle wire harness. I was directed to buy the GM2000SW adapter which included the chime box. This adapter was a direct plug in to my vehicle wiring harness for the radio portion of the car. After finally having the correct parts, installation was a breeze. If you are going to replace your factory radio, I suggest contacting Scosche directly and learning exactly what you need to purchase to facilitate ease of installation. Amazon is a good source to buy from, however it is somewhat erroneous in providing the correct components at times.
