Definitive Price Guide, but....
This is probably the best overall guide out there, but you have to take the prices with a grain of salt. I purchased this to help sell an old Precision bass for a friend. The first thing I noticed is that the price was much higher than the prices they were selling for on Reverb.com. When I took the bass to a prominent collectible retailer in Nashville, they did their own research, and valued the instrument much lower than the Vintage Guitar Magazine price - more in line with what I had seen them selling for on the internet. It still hasn't sold after a number of months in the store, even though it's in excellent condition and vary rare, so I can't imagine ever getting the Vintage Guitar Price Guide price for the instrument.

I now have a new doorstop : (
Very disappointing. Claims to be comprehensive, but other than the common brands, there are no values just one or two sentences describing the guitar maker. It would have been helpful to have values for brands that you can't just dial up on eBay. Most of the prices for guitars other than Fender, Gibson, Martin, PRS and Taylor are pretty far off market prices. Just worked the vintage guitar show in SoCal and the price guide prices are not even close on many brands. Thought this would provide more insight than Reverb.com or GBase - I was wrong. Save your money unless you want an expensive new doorstop.

Gear hounds, collectors and secondary-market shoppers will all find something of value here.
I consider this to be THE standard when looking to buy or sell gear. The prices listed are for gear that is in EXCELLENT shape. It has saved me several times from over-paying for items that showed a little more wear. Although it is as thick as a phone book, it is not all-inclusive. I have a particular Gibson Flying V that isn't listed as well as a couple of Ampeg amps. Some less popular gear is only mentioned, but no prices are given. I keep the older issues too; I like to compare values from a few years ago to see if prices are trending up/down/flat. Even if you don't have enough gear to justify having a price guide, or aren't even planning on buying gear, it's fun to peruse the pages - lots of pictures! I think any FAN of musical gear would enjoy this guide.

The bible...knowledge is power.
It's good. I've purchased 7 or 8 of these over the years.Missing a few things I would have liked to see from some of the newer manufacturers while some really unimportant ones are listed in detail. A couple foreign makers had 2 pages of listing, none up to 4 figures. Great new makers like Knaggs had only a couple lines mentioned. This is a great reference for pricing items for sale and for purchase. Knowledge is power!

Great Guitar Price Guide
Had been looking on the internet trying to find the value of an old Ampliphone Guitar with amp. Never found it. This price guide has everything and found what I wanted almost instantly. It was worth the money.

An indispensable reference, I use it often.
This is an expensive book, but it's a big help if you're buying and selling guitars and amps. Values don't change much, so buying a book every two or three years is fine.

Many guitars are not listed. Also many prices are way off the true value
I was pricing rare, but well known guitars including a 1983 Fender "The Strat". The prices shown in the book (page 107) are $1,750 - $2,300. The going prices on the web for well used models are many times that. The other guitar I was looking for is the PRS Tree of Life. There is no mention of this guitar.

Vintrage guitar buyer's bible
As I begin to watch for vintage guitars popping up in the odd places in the hope of finding a bargain, this book is very helpful. Already it kept me from overpaying by several hunderd dollars for one guitar. Of course, most of the popular Gibson [35 pages] and Fender [26 pages] guitars get lots of coverage and, while not authorative on every manufacturer, model and year (how could one source have it all?) Greenwood's reference book has proven very valuable. All the photos are B/W, there is not a photo of every model of every manufacturer; but in fairness, I would not have spent what that book would have cost. All-in-all, excellent. Buy it while it's still current.

Guitar price guide
Lots of interesting info re vintage to modern guitars and current prices but its a tad annoying that smaller firms only have a brief mention with no prices or photos of their products while the big firms like Fender and Martin etc get pages and pages! I would like to know what the current prices are for individual luthiers and smaller firms too!

Some inaccuracies with pricing but a very comprehensive and useful reference for the price
As good as ever, this is one of the best resources for guitar pricing our there for models you don't see traded too often. There are some inaccuracies with pricing, which might be down to different geographies, but overall it's a useful reference (especially for tracking down future classics).
