I have painted a few engine components that have been exposed to Hi-Temps with great results. I never knew they made a Hi-Temp Clear. My current project is a 99 OBS Escahoe with 6.0 LS Swap and 4wd 80e. I painted the block using the simple steps what I have done for years. Strip using a wire brush, soak with engine de-greaser, power wash, dry, & paint. I wanted to paint my transmission purple b/c it is the same color as ATS Diesel's Transmissions & the Mrs. favorite color (but we all know the real deal) LOL. I couldn't get it at Advanced Auto Parts, I was forced to go online. Amazon had the best price but still about $3 more per can then at Advanced. When I found purple paint, Amazaon offered the primer and clear as well. I honestly had no clue about the primer spray and clear coat. I read a helpful review that the CLEAR COAT will form a SMOOTH surface over the paint. Smooth means less abrasive and the engine grime and dirt can't be in-bedded. The Cleared Part will be easy to maintain over the years keep my hard work clean! So I choose to do 3 stages Amazon recommended Primer. Paint, Clear. I still prepped (wire brush, de-grease, & power wash) the transmission before I lay first coat of primer (ended do three coats). I did as the directions on the can said to for all three stages of the paint phase. I WILL BE HONEST: When I first laid the clear I was upset, it seemed to dull the gloss purple paint that was finished drying. After it drying for 24 hours, the shine came back. Not glossy as originally it was, but the POP effect was there. The first thing I did was run my CLEAN hands over the cleared transmission & it was smooth as a virgin's bottom. I was very pleased & tempted to strip my block and re-do it in the 3 stages. I will leave the block and transmission as is see how they compare over a year and chime back in! Here is link my photobucket account of both motor and engine: [...] Hope this helps! ff40

The is a great "rattle can" paint product and it is very easy to use. It works more like a primer that a paint in that it is an easy application and more forgiving than you might think when you get a little heavy handed. I cleaned, prepped and painted the transmission pan off my truck and let it sit overnight before installing it back on the truck. It looks great and gives me a nice dark purple to offset the black. I used this for two reasons, the transmission gets pretty hot, enough that I'm not sure regular paint would last but I also have the exhaust pipe crossover that goes directly beneath the transmission pan. After I put this back in place and refilled the transmission, I also drove the truck around for about 10 miles and there was no discoloration. That may happen over time but my route ot work is only about 2 miles so it may take some time for me to burn it. I plan to use this to paint the front and rear differentials as well as the engine oil pan as those services come up. I highly recommend this product. Update - 22 JUN 14: No big change but having a different vehicle now and not able to find a decent rattle can purple standard paint, I went back to this engine paint. I used it on the aluminum CAI tube and the plastic engine cover and fuse box lid and it turned out great. I'll add some photos to the product link. A really great product.

This paint went on easy. It has been on my valve cover for over a month. The only flakes are from my hood rubbing. Very good paint. The color was a little lighter and duller than I wanted. If you want a darker color i recommend a darker primer since I used a very light grey. I also recommend a gloss top coat. I did not use one and I regret it.

Used on an engine for my daughter's jeep. Great color. Can covers alot. Use a good primer. Three stars because I believe it scratches too easily. Not stronger than regular spray paint.
