Q: why is it saying it doesn't have enough space for a 4.01 gb file? There isn't anything on the usb yet and it is a 64 gb.

Did you format it with FAT32 file system? FAT32 is limited to 4GB max file size. Format the USB disk with exfat or ntfs filesystem.

I am not sure what you mean by protected files. One thought is to try doing this as administrator rather than a normal user.

There shouldn’t be an extra app you need to use it. Although the 5th gen iPad may need a workaround to get a flash drive to work. Take a look at Apple’s forums for that and see if anything works for you.

It's a usbc drive, so it should work in a Thunderbolt port but it won't provide Thunderbolt speeds
