Is the 6 player game awkward for sitting at table to play?

Not really. We do it all the time. It's nice to be able to play with all 6 of us.

What wood is it made from?

I don’t know but it is not level rocks back and forth on the table

Is there any benefit to having this 6-sided board versus the traditional square one?

I had the regular board & found we liked the convenience of having 6 individual sets of numbers as we play with 6 people often. Certainly not a necessity but a good choice for us for a reasonable price.
