Why did the price of this pillow jump from $49 to $106 overnight?

I can't speak for other sellers, but our pillow has always been priced at $55, which is Tempur-Pedic's MSRP pricing.

Can this pillow be used against the spine while in bed sitting up for support?

Yes, but I have yet to find a pillow (or pillows) adequate to comfortably support my spine while sitting in bed for any time, in that sliding down from a sitting position in bed is inevitable. However, this Tempurpedic pillow (the "peanut") is amazingly versatile and for a time was not to be found. (They have another, that's flattened down, not half as useful.) I love it for bed and travel, for spine and neck support. It is, as they say, all-purpose, and for an excellent price.
