Worth buying this Gourmia ice cream maker.
May 16, 2017: I paid under $50 for mine. I notice now the price is almost doubled, not worth that much.March 3, 2017: A couple additions. 1) Be careful digging out the ice cream. If someone gets too strong a push the lining comes off. I don't know what this coating is made from because it doesn't say in the booklets. Was a bit upset to see we ended up with that coating in us from eating the ice cream since it scratched off a little. 2) My last batch was mint chocolate chip which came out perfect. But, the organic mint plant I bought was spearmint which is not a good taste to add. Next time will use peppermint extract, maybe 1/8 teaspoon since it is strong. If someone prefers ice milk vs ice cream, I substituted. Just switch the recipe to 2 cups of whole milk and 1 cup of cream. Excellent taste and doesn't get too hard.February 19, 2017: Made first batch of ice cream today, adding 1/4 cup dark cocoa to the base recipe before simmering on the stove. Stirred constantly with a whisk on medium heat until a light simmer started. Then continued with the book directions. Good results. Whisked the mixture a little before pouring it in the machine which makes flufflier ice cream. Don't forget to turn on the machine before adding the mix. This is my opinion of the product. The default timer is 20 minutes. All the recipes require 40 minutes. Therefore, the timer button has to be pushed 20 more times to bring it up to 40. If you hit 41 times, it reverts back to 20. The button feels a little cheap and I wonder how long it will tolerate the process. Why was it not a 40 minute default? Next time after the 20 minutes ends, will push the timer button once to bring back to 20.If someone likes soft ice cream, serve immediately after the churning stops. We like hard, so put it in the freezer for 6 hours. Next time I will increase the cocoa to 1/3 cup because 1/4 cup was not a strong enough chocolate flavor. Definitely will half the sugar since it was extremely sweet for my taste. Wish a cover was included for the freezer bowl. The directions require reading both booklets. I had to read them 4 times to make sure I understood them correctly. I can see how a couple others may have been mislead into a poor quality batch. Read, read, read. This is the best part. Was able to buy all organic ingredients. 100% organic ice cream is heavenly. The machine runs quietly. I will be able to use it at night while others are asleep.Someone mentioned substituting half the heavy cream to be whole milk. Sounds good! This is a great purchase. Only $45.

Worked Great for 3 Weeks - Then Broke and Now It's Useless
I loved this ice cream maker for the first 3 weeks I had it, although it's a pain in the ass to scrape hard-frozen ice cream from the bowl (and nothing seemed to prevent this - I tried using non-stick coconut oil spray, pre-cooling the ice cream mix, etc.). Then, after 3 blissful weeks, the plastic paddle snapped off in the motor and now the entire unit is useless. I've requested a refund or replacement from the seller, as Amazon closed the return window 4 weeks after receipt of the item.

Jury's Still Out
The first time I used this, it worked alright, not great, but not horribly. The ice cream at the very bottom and around the sides of the bottom half of the bowl was frozen. The rest was cool and a little thicker than when it started, but not nearly as frozen as our old salt-based ice cream maker made it.I've used this ice cream maker at least six times since I bought it and each time it works worse than the last time. I thought that maybe I wasn't getting the bowl cold enough (I've been storing it in the freezer), so instead of putting in the freezer on top of the fridge, I put it into the deep-freeze where it's a steady 9˚. It was in the freezer for over a week when I tried it again this morning. After 40 minutes of churning, the ice cream was just as fluid as when I'd started; even the bit at the bottom wasn't at all firm.I'm about a week past being able to return this, so I'm out the money I paid for it. I'm hoping to buy another brand as I eat a lot of Dave Asprey's ice cream. I don't know if I have a defective bowl or if all Gourmia ice cream makers are the same way, but I don't think I'll be buying another one of these.***EDIT***Gourmia contacted me in response to my review. They seem committed to fixing the problems I'm having. Even though I'm past Amazon's return window, Gourmia has a 1-year satisfaction guarantee. In light of this, I added a couple of stars so as not to mess up their average and will adjust them as necessary and update the review once we get this worked out. I'm hopeful.

Dairy Free Ice Cream, Yay!
I love this! It's easy to use and easy to take apart & clean. I dont eat dairy and sometimes it's hard to find all the flavors I like in dairy free form. The first thing I made was coconut matcha (green tea) & honey ice cream. The only negative I have is the plastic spatula. It broke on the second day. Thankfully, it broke in a spot where I can still use it, but it's cheaply made (of thin plastic). It should be rubber.

Great compact easy to clean and reasonably priced
This little unit is the BOMB! It’s not too noisy, takes up hardly any cabinet or counter space, it’s totally easy to use, and BEST OF ALL - it’s a cinch to clean! The motor assembly is very well shielded from the wet ingredients & pops out easily so you can clean the body of the machine by simply running under hot water. It makes perfect ice cream & with “The Keto Ice Cream Scoop” (available on Amazon) we eat yummy sugar free ice cream several times a week. I just served some peppermint chocolate chip to an ice cream snob - who never figured it out that she had just eaten keto sugar free HOMEMADE ice cream.I came here today to send her a link to buy this Gourmia Ice Cream maker & am bummed to find its no longer available!!

Ok for custard style icecream
I like the scale of this...not too bulky to store or manage and it is easy to clean. I think it's pretty basic and I imagine you get what you pay for. Anyway, with that said...I had several failed attempts that were too icy. Finally the best result was with custard style icecream, chilling the custard over night and chilling the icecream bowl over night as well. Now that I know how to get s good result with this machine I'm happy but I think a more expensive machine probably yields a better product.
