Great Yogurt Maker With Accurate Temperature Control

First off, this is an EU product, so no UK plug, I knew this when purchasing. Price is a bit high considering the plastic containers, but it was one the cheapest yogurt makers which had both temperature control and a long, 48 hour timer, which is what convinced me to buy it over the much cheaper yogurt makers. If you do not need the fine temp control and long timer, get the cheaper yogurt makers.Using the machine is very simple, instructions are multilingual, but includes English. I recommend using the water-bath trick mentioned in the manual, where you add a small amount of water in the bottom of the yogurt maker, then put the container in with your milk and culture. The water will even out the temperature and keep it consistent.I got this machine primarily to make my own lactose-free yogurts, specifically with L.Reuteri culture (I used 4 pro-biotic capsules as the starter, but now using the remains of the previous batch to start the next). Temperatures were very good and accurate, at least on my machine, keeping to within 1C of the desired temp (tested with two different thermometers). I made Reuteri yogurt at 36C. First batch I left going for 36 hours, but subsequent batches of yogurt I only need 10-12 hours if I am making normal yogurt, but I will leave it going for 16-24 if making Greek yogurt with the included strainer. Reuteri yogurt is more sour than normal yogurt, and quite thin, but mix in a little bit of honey until you get used to it. I now have it plain.I have also used the machine to make Natto - fermented Soya beans, and it has worked out amazing. The machine is small, and you can store the two containers, strainer, and lids, all bundled together when not in use. You can only do 1L of milk at a time, but that works out fine for using UHT/Long-life milk cartons. I strongly recommend using whole-milk, rather than semi or skimmed, unless you like that astringent after-taste of fat-free yogurts. If you don't like the idea of using the plastic containers, you can use a glass jar instead (like a Douwe Egberts coffee jar without the lid), anything up to 140mm diameter and 140mm tall.Overall, I am very pleased with the machine. It sips power at just 20W while active, doesn't take up much space, easy to clean, and since it has two containers, you can start the second batch while you eat the first. Just get an EU power adapter if you don't have already have one.

Best yoghurt maker I’ve owned and dishwasher safe!

Super easy operation, turn on and run on default for perfect natural yoghurt. Includes strainer and spare container to easily make Greek style thick yoghurt, set yoghurt, fromage frais or cream cheese. Easy to change temperature and time if you want to experiment. Can even use as a sous vide. I use UHT whole milk with 2-3 teaspoons of live natural yoghurt, straight in the pot, no need to heat or scald. You can then save 2-3 teaspoons of the last batch to use as the starter for the next batch as infinitum. All the parts that need cleaning are dishwasher safe (hurrah!) and store inside each other in the yoghurt maker which despite its 1 litre capacity doesn’t take up much space at all. Much better than the machines with the fiddly little pots and makes much more yoghurt, I decant into small glass pots with airtight plastic lids for the kids lunches and the rest is stored in the spare container in the fridge whilst I’m making another batch. Just ideal. Generally ok.

Pros: Good, easy to operate machine, making nice yoghurt with skimmed milk. Heat control works well.Cons: Arrived with nasty, grey specks all over it - cigarette ash? I hadn’t absorbed it was a European plug.

Predictable results

It’s interesting reading the negative reviews of this machine. When the fermentation process fails it’s easy to blame it and not ask yourself the question what am I doing wrong? The machine is very good. I purchased it because reviews noted the accuracy of the temperature control. I use a separate thermometer to check milk temp and the culture about an hour after it’s been in the machine.Follow the instructions of the machine rigorously and use a decent starter ( I use freshly fermented.co.uk). Make sure everything is sterilised, and the milk at the correct temperature. It’s child’s play.I’ve not made yoghurt previously and wanted to make Greek yoghurt. This machine has been perfect. I used the whey from the first batch to provide the culture for the second batch. It worked fine.

Not good for L. Reuteri yogurt

This machine is not good for my need, i have tried to make the L. Reuteri fermented milk(yogurt), it doesn't work well for my experience using it, my wife can achieve excellent results by warming up the milk to make Fage yogurt and leaving it on the kitchen top wrapped up with a big towel, but i wanted this machine for the L. Reuteri Yogurt that requires specific temperature, i couldn't send it back because i was few days passed the return date, it warms up just at the bottom of the pot so the bottom temperature is 38 Celsius and the top is around 30 degrees Celsius, it is made of plastic, light weight, very delicate and fragile, it doesn't come with a English plug, not worth the price ( I've paid £50, a £20 version does a better job or spending more money for a multicooker to make the yogurt and other uses

Perfect

I am so happy with this. I am new to yoghurt making and did lots of research before buying a yoghurt maker. I want to try cheeses and quark and other things too. The Browin yoghurt maker has the option of choosing your preferred time and temperature. That's why I chose it.The yoghurt I have made is beyond my expectations. I experimented with different times, and with using the strainer for different lenths of time. It is so incredibly good - much better than what you buy in the shop. At the moment I have only used a Nordic Culture - so much more to explore. You could use it for fermenting foods, or sauerdough - sounds exciting, have to try it.

A good piece of kit

I'm using this to make Kefir. At the moment it seems to be working well. Easy to operate...
